It’s clearly Missouree, right? Where did the other pronunciation even come from?

Depends on which part of the state you're from; southern Mizzou pronounces it Missouruh & the northern part pronounces it Missouree.....for the most part anyway.

I understand there are regional dialects, but where does the "uh" sound even originate from? Missouri....it seems quite obvious the "ouri" at the end would lead to a long E sound.

No idea....I'm from the bootheel (SE corner) and all of my relatives pronounce it with the "uh" and I pronounce it with the "ee"......as it turns out I'm much more educated and traveled so there's that

I'm from the same place, and pronounce it with an "ee," but I'll slip in to a Missouruh occasionally.

The same reason people say Saukerlina.

Same thing as people saying tomatuh instead of tomato.

Or drop the "a" when saying days of the week. Sundy, Mondy, etc.

Well, yes, if you are a tard. So.. you would pronounce it Ar Kansas.
Mostly it depends on how much genetic damage you have.

Which part is the one that says "Mizzou"? Is that the Yankee part?

I thought it was pronounced "misery".
Posted on 4/4/18 at 11:37 pm to wadewilson
that's how I pronounce it
Posted on 4/4/18 at 11:43 pm to Jazzbo Depew
I guess kind of a combination of both?
peh-can is the best way I can describe it. Of course this is actively saying it out loud instead of saying it naturally in a sentence. Guess I’ve never given it thought
