I’m guessing you were born and raised there. I have driven through Marion hundreds of times (my parents had a lake house in Greer’s Ferry growing up), and give me a fricking break. You’re being intellectually dishonest as frick if you think that is a remotely good location for a recently graduated 22 year old. It’s a hick town with the population of 12K. I know your town and the fact that your Tops BBQ has the single ugliest person in the country working for it (at least they were around 2012 and before), but tell me I don’t know it.

I grew up in a piece of shite town south of Memphis, and I’d never recommend a single guy in his early 20s to move there. Seriously do you think a girl who lives in Mud Island, Downtown, or Midtown is going to be remotely impressed by someone who lives in a hick town like Marion? They’ll have to sell themselves hardcore since it immediately puts off the impression that they’re poor to live across the river.

I’m brutally honest, because I know your town well and it’s fricking insane to propose that a 22 year old fresh out of college move there when he’s wanting to move into a city. You may as well be suggesting someone live in Winona or Wynne. You know this is true and you’re intellectually dishonest just because you like your home town and want people to move there.

I mean, Jesus Christ, moving to Marion after graduating single from Ole Miss. If he went up there and looked around for renting a house, and he had a comparable price for an apartment on Mud Island or Midtown, what the frick do you think a 22 year old horny male is going to choose? Even if it’s a 15 minute longer drive, he’ll take that over fricking Marion. No 22 single male would choose Marion over any attractive place in Memphis unless they were raised there AND married. You drive by the Zaxby’s with vacant fields as far as the eye can see, and chicks don’t want that future.

Final Edit: I know how awful West Memphis traffic can be at rush hour, so no I don’t believe you at all that it’s a shorter drive from midtown. Sure from Collierville... but I don’t see how it’s definitively worse than some parts of Germantown, and I would bet that someone can make it to downtown quicker from midtown at 8:00 in the morning than Marion.

Whatever you do, don't do this. There is a reason that parents in Marion, AR send their children to Christian Bros. in Memphis.

I'm not an expert on current Memphis, but Midtown used to be good for single post-grads. I had family and friends that lived there, and it was a blast to visit them.

Thank you. I mean, my god, who outside of Marion would say that 22 year old single male should do this? Marion save for West Memphis is probably the worst town within 10 miles of Memphis. Really you’d be better off living in Tunica, and that is no praise to Tunica.

Like you’re talking to a chick on Tinder. Here’s how the conversations will go in each town.

Chick: Where do you live?
You: Marion. You?
End Conversation

Chick: Where do you live?
You: Tunica
Chick: Oh, really? Last time I was there I was down 200 dollars and then my girlfriend won $400. Lol! What do you do?

I have friends from Marion. None of them live in Marion. Hell, some of them have paid for their parents to move from Marion to where they live.

It might be a great place if you're a farmer or you service the farming community, or if you have a meth problem and need anhydrous ammonia on the quick.

But if you're trying to pull Rhodes, University of Memphis State University, and post-grad SEC leg, it ain't happening if you live in Marion, Arkansas. And you're not getting any valuable networking in Marion, either.

Bunch of people telling a 22 year old OM grad to live in the suburbs?

Doesn't matter where you work, live within walking distance to bars and chicks. Wherever the best spot for that is.

Of course they would make it quicker from Midtown to Downtown, not only is Midtown closer there is also the fricking Mississippi River between Marion and Downtown plus once you cross the bridge it's not like you're already in Marion you have to keep driving a little bit

This board will shite on Memphis but honestly I think it’s a pretty underrated city. I’ve been there many times and have always had a good time. I was there this past fall and noticed a lot of condos around Autozone Park and more buildings going up. There were lots of younger people hanging out downtown in the area around Rendezvous BBQ, Huey’s, The Peabody Hotel, the new baseball stadium, etc. Definitely a place where locals go to hang out while the tourists go to Beale. Seriously though, if I lived in Memphis, I would eat at Central BBQ every day.

But if you’re a 22 year old male straight out of Ole Miss, live in a shack in Marion. Seriously it will be awesome. Nothing happens there and every chick will assume that you’re on food stamps to live there outside of Memphis. Seriously, Marion should be the first place right out of college you should live in.

Come on to that Ark poster, admit that you grew up there. No need to drag down a 22 year old with your community. Seriously, do you think a hot chick straight out of college living in a decent place is going to hook up with someone living in the equivalent of a trailer? Unless she’s a total fricking hick who is cool with that, good luck getting laid in Marion. Even if it’s just a hook up and you’re the most badass and attractive man on the planet, here’s her thought “Well he’s hot and confident, but there’s no way in hell I’ll be roped out here. frick this shite.” It sends all the wrong messages, but some local douchebag thinks you should move there because his hick town is dying.

As far as an actual town is concerned, I’m confident anyone actually looking out for the OP’s interests would suggest anywhere else save for West Memphis.

Drove through Memphis (coming in on I-22 from Alabama) a fee weeks ago for the first time in years and was shocked how bad it was. I know there are nice areas but the area of town you come into coming from Tupelo is a complete sh##hole. Abandoned buildings, trash everywhere, and pothole filled roads. Even the edge of the suburbs on the Mississippi side which I expected to be much nicer were drab and depressing.

I am an old guy and my old guy best friend lives in Southhaven, which will be great in 10 years when you have a couple of kids.

From visiting him and driving around town I would agree with the guys that said the river area or Midtown. When we go out there seem to be younger folks in both areas.

The south side of downtown area around the civil rights museum also looks to have a lot of new apartments and such going up, would think younger people congregate there as far as living areas go, know there are a few good restaurants down there, but I defer to others on that.

The way east areas and north Mississippi are nice but they are spread out driving areas so I have never noticed young people meet places but I haven't been looking since they went up. My time around Memphis coincides with the original era of Overton Square.

As far as Marion goes you have to drive through West Memphis to get there so just no.

Yeah, this is the equivalent of a 22 year old college graduate asking where to move in Texas, and someone’s answer is Brownsville or Odessa. fricking Marion, for frick’s sake. Maybe it’s a good place to hang yourself, but save for farming, that town is good for nothing.
