I’m an upcoming grad from Ole Miss looking to move to Memphis for work. No bs what is it like to live here- especially as a young professional. Also, where would you live? I have buddies from Germantown, Collierville, and the nicer parts of Memphis proper, but obviously I couldn’t afford that. I’ve heard Cooper-Young is a good place to be?

Honestly, the only options I would consider.

Memphis is the worst of Tennessee, Arkansas, and Mississippi combined into one shite hole.

It might be the only city in America that's worse than New Orleans.

You should reconsider.

My friend lives in Midtown and I like that area when I go to visit him. He lives walking distance to a handful of bars and restaurants. It seems like a good mix of families and young singles, but mostly families.

That's about all I know about Memphis. As a young grad, I wouldn't want to live out in the suburbs. I'd prefer to be closer to the action downtown. You have your whole life in front of you to kill your soul by moving to the cookie cutter suburbs.

Midtown

I have a cousin that lives in Southaven and I'm told that they've cleaned up Midtown quite a bit. Also Southaven isn't as bad as advertised.

Look in Midtown, there's a lot of development going on and it's where I went when I was young, broke, and single.

Collierville and Germantown are for when you have money, kids, and are tired of playing "was that gunshots or fireworks?"

Just go live in Southaven. It's my guess as to where the white flight first occurred. The wife and I go there quite often and really enjoy it, but not as much as we like Germantown though.

Go to Mud Island after graduating. Safe, lots of young people, and fun. Only a 5 minute Uber from downtown. Forget Germantown and Collierville.

Yeah, I'd also recommend Midtown. Downtown isn't so bad so either.

Where do you work?

If you work close to downtown... go across the river and rent in Marion, Arkansas. You will be closer to the Downtown then most of Memphis and the rent will be a lot less.

If you work in the Eastern outskirts of Memphis then I'd look at Southhaven or Germantown. Both are nice places to live. If you are a on a tight budget... Marion and be willing to eat a 90 minute commute back and forth.

The Memphis interior is either over priced or in an urban war zone. Unless you make really good money you don't live in Memphis... you live along the periphery closest to your job.

Basically... downtown live in Arkansas. Eastern live in Germantown or Southhaven.

Where is your job going to be? I live in Collierville, but I have lived in East Memphis, Midtown, and Germantown as well. Cooper-Young is a good spot for young people, you can walk to a lot of places if you're looking for an area of town like that. A lot of other young professionals choose High Point in East Memphis or Harbortown/Mud Island downtown. There are places you can rent in Germantown or Collierville as well if you want to go that route

I had an internship in Southaven this past summer and it really is a nice area, I was looking more for proximity to other young people

Marion is a piece of shite. If he gets a chick at Raifords and he drags her back across the bridge to a piece of shite like Marion, yeah good fricking luck getting your dick wet from there. Southaven is a better alternative to this. No question. Do not listen to this suggestion OP.

I’m guessing you’re assuming his budget for housing is $250 a month. Seriously, dude, I’m warning you, do not live in Arkansas. The cheapest mother fricker I know could afford to live on Mud Island. I give him shite on a weekly basis on my group me for being a cheap shite. Do not go further across the Mississippi than that. You’d be better off in literal Mississippi than living in Marion or West Memphis. I can not stress this highly enough that this guy has led you astray.

Hell, does Uber operate out there? I’m not sure if they do. I know they do in Southaven, so worst case go with that.

EDIT: And if you lived in Southaven you can lie to hot chicks and say you work for FedEx, since Southaven is closer to FedEx than Mud Island, Downtown, and Midtown are. I wouldn’t exactly recommend Southaven, but it’s definitely better than anywhere in Arkansas. Living in Arkansas and working in Memphis just says to everyone “I’m a deadbeat loser”. Seriously, I’m looking out for your future. That poster may as well have recommended you chop your dick off.

You talking about someone trying to get laid is... I am sure that is a major problem with you buddy. All those women just throwing themselves at you.

Oh God bless you. You as a suave Don Juan. Yes...

OK. If, to the OP, you would like to spend your time, basking in the glow of OMLandshart... then by all means. I imagine he has plenty of free time on his hands.

My suggestion is that Marion is closer to Memphis then most of Memphis if its the Downtown area. If its further out then go with Southhaven or Germantown. But... wow... Landshart...

God bless you Landshart. I was feeling a bit down tonight but you talking about picking up women... you've cheered me up buddy.

Please, I beg you, share with us your wisdom Landshart.
