Did not see it posted here yet, but who else is looking forward to this and already marked it down.

The director is the same one that did Ghosts of Ole Miss, with the central question being about the Father-Son relationship. For those few that do not know, Maravich was the basketball version of Todd Marinovich.

Still a Top-3 unbreakable sports record
44.2 ppg (3,667pts), in only 3 years no 3 pt line.

Magic saying he was the greatest showman ever and who he modeled his game after.

A story most do not know, after retiring Pete standing on his roof and asking the aliens to take him.

Just a few things...also he was an SAE in college.

SEC Storied: Maravich

It is possible someone could break the points per game for a season, but unless things change to force basketball players to stay 3 or 4 years before heading to the NBA, the 3,667 total points is unbreakable. Even more so in a non 3-pointer scenario.

Also loved his double bird to the Alabama Fans after getting booted out of the game for scoring to many point against them Dude was way ahead of his time. He could compete with any players of any era

Thanks for posting this. Pistol is in the discussion for top basketball players ever, college and pro. Most of the kids on the courts today have no idea that most of their cool moves come from a goofy white boy from LSU.

I saw him score 69 in Tuscaloosa when I was 8 years old, and kept the scorecard.

He was scoring so quickly that I didn’t bother with the others on the scorecard.

No one will ever come close to averaging 44 ppg game, even for a season...

One of my professors was in school with the Pistol - he said he never saw him without a basketball and he was known to dribble outside the car window when stopped at a light.

I agree, my point was that even if a 3 point shooter freak pulled it off for a season, he wouldn't stay in college for the total points. He would be going get paid.

Book by Mark Kreigel is excellent.

He certainly may be the most hated "teammate" / loved player ever.

For so many people if you have not even seen just the highlights, you cannot understand how ahead of his time he was. Guys like Westbrook, Curry, Harden, Jordan, Magic, Bird, Jerry West. They all talk about him to this day. It will truly be fascinating I think for a lot of people that do not know from the day he was born to the day he died it was basketball, but what he struggled with is thats not life.

Only chance is if you get volume scorer like a Fredette at a place like that where they will stay all 4 years for reasons outside of money, a coaches son, religion, service academy, etc. The per game avergae will never be broken for a season.

Just for comparison.

Trae Young is averaging 28.0 ppg. And they have played 29 games, and have a minimum of 32 he will play this year.

If he played 32 games at his current scoring rate for 4 years, his career point total would be 3,584.

Maravich had 3,677 with no three point line and in 3 years.

So if you can get a player at BYU to fill it up and average 30ppg every year his whole career they would break the total points scored.

For your viewing pleasure

Just in case you cant tell with the grainy picture, going full speed at 6'5 he goes between his legs on a bounce pass without breaking stride, and puts it on a rope.

Oh and to Bama fans thanks for the 69 spot

So many great memories of Pete. I was in school in McComb when he was playing. We got down to games every chance that we could. Tickets were hard to get, but my dad was a friend of Carl Maddox, and he got us tickets from time to time. Coach Carl said that he got as many as 1000 personal requests for some games.

After Pete left, Johnny Nuemann started playing for Ole Miss (40.1 ppg). My last year in McComb, we went to a game in Baton Rouge where Johnny put up 63. (26/40, 11/13) Neumann left after 1 year to go to the ABA, and college basketball hasn't really seen anything like those two since.

One note about the ridiculous numbers that Pistol and Neumann put up is that they did it without the benefit of a 3-pt line.
