The Mississippi River is the Heartland of the SEC. St. Louis is on that river.

The Mighty Mississippi touches 6 out of the 11 SEC states. It's literally the heartland of the Southeastern Conference.
St. Louis is one of the best cities on the Mississippi River. It is the ONLY city on the River with an arch.
Johnny Cash sang songs about the Big River.
Why all the hate?
Learn your Geography, haters.

It also touches all those Yankee states, starting with Missouri.

Minneapolis is also on the Mississippi, does that make it southern?

Combine this argument with the people who think its too north. What do ya get? Memphis, the perfect location.

There are arches all over Memphis. Hell, there are probably 10 McDonald’s on Poplar Ave alone

Much better than the 'racist' thread from the other dude.

They just can't see it. The Gateway To The West opens up a much larger national audience. The South and the East already watch SEC sports. If that $40.4 million revenue distribution per school doubled, they'd be all for it.

besides, it improves our image of stepping away from the backwards and depressing south

It's about being "SEC", not "southern".
Minnesota would be a great addition to the SEC. Lots of blondes, and a nuisance-animal mascot. Perfect.

Birmingham Al is both the geographical and population center of The SEC.
The conference HQs and conferences being there and the football championship being held in Atlanta makes perfect sense.

How is Birmingham the population center of the SEC? Even if you include the metro, it’s much smaller than the cities AND metros of Atlanta, Memphis, Nashville, NOLA, etc.

it also touches Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, Illinois.....so....

Birmingham is the geographical population center, that isn't saying it has the biggest population of any city in the SECC area.
