Should Mizzou consider cancelling the Braggin' Rights series?

LWLLLLLLLLWWWWLLWWWLLLLLLLLLWWWWLLLLL
12-25 vs Illinois.
They quit on the football series due to the one-sided nature...should we do the same?
It's not as if this is a "good loss" most years either...it's Illinois. Sometimes a program just has your number. I think this series is bad for us.

No. It’s basketball.
If it was football, then hell yes.
One basketball game has less effect on the basketball season than one football game does.

True, but this game has become virtually unwinnable for us. Even in our good years, we usually lose to them. 4-14 since 2000....I mean, yikes.

Well we sure look like it each time we step on the court with them.

No and what a pussy idea.

Serious question: What benefit does this game provide our program?
We typically lose. It obviously doesn't help with STL recruiting. Perhaps it makes us a little money? That's all I can come up with.

Leaving would make us look like pussies. I don't live in St. Louis and don't give a rip about Illinois, but it's a good game in a good environment. That type of stuff is valuable. Same reason we should play Kansas. It's what fans want, and the players need.
Fear is for kansas. I don't want a fear off losing to dictate the programs decisions

This is the only value I can see in it. I agree with you on that point.
From a strategic standpoint however, I think it's hindering us. Too often it ends up being a bad loss, or much less often, a middle of the road win.

We should probably play better when we play them.

Which begs the question...why don't we? Again, for some reason they seem to have our number.
Even when we have good teams and they don't, they still win oftentimes. What is it that makes us continually piss our pants in this game? It's got a North Endzone kind of feel to it...

It does. We’ve got some exploitable weaknesses that are on tape for everyone to see this year. Either Harris gets it figured out, Phillips gets out of the doghouse or we are an NIT team.

I definitely get it on a yearly basis. This year is a perfect example. As you said, we have a very exploitable weakness with our guard play so I can see how a lesser team could beat us by exposing that.
But all-time it makes no sense. I did some number crunching, and during the Braggin' Rights era Mizzou is 760-451 (.623) and Illinois is 814-413 (.663).
Mathematically you would expect Illinois to lead the series 19.5 to 17.5 based on those numbers. But reality is Illinois leads 25-12. That's quite an anomaly that has occurred over a significant sample size (37 and counting). It's frustrating and doesn't add up. Like I said...North Endzone feeling to it.

Shot incredibly poor. Too many turnover. Geist is arse. Jontay played poorly. Puryear didn't show up.
I think Harris actually took a step forward tonight.
Buried ourselves with a shite first half.
Flush it and move on.

No, Bragging Rights game is cool even if they kick our arse.
But Mizzou should consider not picking up dribble, panicking, and throwing ball away 15 times a game.

Not an NIT team, sorry to disappoint you. 5 for 27 from 3 killed us. We came back in that game despite not hitting anything.
I do think players need to come to the ball when it’s dead. Basic concept that we aren’t very good at. Probably got Illini’s A game as well, but haven’t admittedly haven’t seen them play. Mark Smith will be a really good player for them. Hopefully Harris will for us. Harris is the Better athlete, but I’d prefer Smith at this point and most likely going forward. When Harris yells after he turns the ball over all by himself he shows his immaturity. Cuonzo of all people should know how to mold him though.

Harris is a freshman and it shows, but being at the game you could sense him kind of taking over the team in the second half. They fed off of him, particularly on the Defensive end. He's the only one of our point guards that fights to keep his dribble alive, even if he's a little out of control at times.
If we are going to go though, he's going to have to be the guy.
Just a bad game. I don't think that's indicative of who we are, but we are now 0-3 vs major conference schools. We shall see...

Iowa St isn't a major conference school?
