No troll here, but a legit question. Could this Georgia team make it this far under Richt?

Had it been Stoops vs. Richt, who knows.

Riley vs. Smart just has a much nicer, killer edge to the matchup. Both are a combined 3 years into their head coaching positions.

OU has a nice offense. UGA has a nice defense.

Exciting time for both programs.

We wouldn't have the same players (especially Fromm) so impossible to say for sure, but unlikely.

UGA needed some new blood though. It would be hard to see us getting from where we were in 2015 to where we are now without something significant changing.

This.

It's not like richt hasn't had similar teams as this (1 loss, playoff contention) but this team sure FEELS different than a richt team.

No. IMO after ten years a sort is staleness enters CFB programs. That's why I'm so interested to see how Saban progresses from here on out. I am not saying Bam will fire him or anything stupid like that.

Richt would have had his Pitt moment against Mizzou and crapped the in the SEC CG.

We actually knew what we were doing when we both politely parted ways. Good man but he can drive Miami fans crazy now.

This is just the second year for Smart.

We wouldn’t have made it this far under Richt because Fromm would be riding the pine at Alabama right now if Richt hadn’t left.

Anyone can run two senior five star running backs up the middle with a defense starting 6 seniors and 5 juniors ( Depth Chart ). You would literally have to be retarded to fail with that, and that Richt has almost the same record over at Miami but couldn't have done it at Georgia is precious.

No, Richt would have lost the SECCG. That being said I am very excited about going to the Rose in smart’s second year. Even if we lose it will be a successful season and we’d lose to a great opponent. I think it will be a great game either way though.

No. Richt lost the fire in his belly. Once he took off the headset and put on the sunglasses that was it. Once he does that at Miami (I give it 3 years) Miami will realize the same thing.

OU fans, no troll, but do you teach your players to not rape and hit women?

Of course this is just my opinion, but I think the real difference is the fact that so many seniors that could be playing in the NFL right now, chose to stay their senior year. They are all Mark Richt's recruits.

I don't think we would have gotten there with Richt.

Yes the upperclassmen piece is huge, but for me the most telling thing looking at this current team is the manner in which they're winning. There is a killer instinct instilled in this team I always felt lacking on Richt's teams. Georgia has not just won the games they were supposed to but straight up dominated virtually every one of them.

Honestly, probably not. As others have mentioned, staleness had taken over Athens. And we wouldn't have had the same players playing. Eason would no doubt probably had started this year as opposed to last. The only 'what if' would be what his development would have been like.

Also, a big upgrade was our S&C compared to Richt's tenure.

As for the seniors returning argument? Who knows if they would have contributed as good as they have been? One of the hits UGA has always taken is the one that we have the talent, but they never pan out in college. They hit the NFL and boom. Thats S&C development.

the line is between pick em and 1.5

should be a really good matchup

I believe we can win, but absolutely know that OK is a really good team that could beat us

I do believe we will have an edge in the crowd though

Richt has been gone almost two years to the date. We just won the SEC with our new coach.

How much longer must we talk about Richt?

If Richt were coaching at UGA the Dawgs would be 9-3 and going to the Outback Bowl.

Nope.

Kirby has instilled an edge to this team that Richt never could.

Richt's motto was "Finish the Drill" insinuating that the game would be close all the way to the end. Smart's battle cry is "Make their asses quit". That sums it up about perfectly.

I doubt we would be as good with richt. Zero reason to expect it.
