Interesting. I think he's a pretty good coach... though his stint at UGA was very short lived... came in January after the 2012 SECCG against Bama... 2013 we were heavily injured across the board and then Grantham "bounced" in the beginning of 2014 and we picked up Pruitt. We actually had 3 different DL coaches in 3 years there from 2012-2014... Garner right before Wilson, Rocker right after. Not sure how he is as a recruiter since we never really got a full cycle out of him.
Surtain would be a great hire if that rumor is true. Any thoughts on when a decision would be made there? With Jimbo gone from FSU now, probably opens up the door to nab Jr, no? Understatement is understatement... but that kid is incredible. Not that I personally want to see UF land another elite DB, but he'd bee a good continuation of the lineage there.
Gotta make sure DBU title stays out of the hands of LSU.

I haven’t seen anyone reputable report Surtain to Florida. There was some buzz over a week ago when I mentioned it here but it died down.

It picked back up yesterday with Franz Beard reporting he expects Surtain to take the job at Florida this week

A lot of things can change in the midst of a search, but if we got Surtain Sr. I'd say that'd be a homerun hire. Especially since he's already in Florida and has one of the best CBs in the country.
We'll see what happens.

Speaking of staffs. STRICKLIN LEARNED NOTHING FROM THE MAC EXTENSION BS. How the frick is Mullens buyout $12M regardless of the year he's fired? That's terrible negotiating.
At least make him earn a huge buyout.

It is $12 million for most of the contract, but it does reduce should the value of the remaining contract be less than that.

Maybe some fans won't try and run him off after 1 year. We needed to show some long term commitment to our head coachs because UF was getting a bad reputation for firing coaches to quickly.
A new coach needs a minimum of 4 years before the threat of being fired. If he turns it around quicker than that, give him an extension.

Beat UGA and Bama then get an extension. Not for backing into a SEC East title and an asswhipping from Bama 2 years in a row.
