Worst new coaching search ever?

Normally in Aggieland coaching searches are some of our favorite times, as we discard the coach we are sick of and hope for a splash hire that will awaken the sleeping giant.
With RC many people were tired of him, so that search was celebrated.
With Fran everyone hated him, so that search was celebrated.
With Sherman many people were sick of the meltdowns and his stance on the SEC, so that search was celebrated.
But this time around many of the Aggies I know IRL aren't looking forward to this search at all. Most know it has to happen if the season plays out how it looks to play out, but without an obvious choice (except a Chad whose SMU career isn't as good as Sumlin's UH career was) and the fact we will have to compete with other (let's be honest more attractive) SEC programs for coaches this offseason means that any sort of dream hire like Chip Kelly is off the table.
All of these Aggies in my life are upset about Sumlin, but they are also upset of 3-5 years we will likely throw away to rebuilding unless whoever we hire basically does better than we or anyone would expect them to do. There is little hope in this coaching search this time around, which combined with the fact that the Longhorns defense is looking better by the week has many Aggies I know wanting to just take a step back from the program altogether.
Is this feeling shared on this board on with the Aggies in your lives? Is there some ray of hope everyone is missing?

Nope, we fricked
HC search is done deal imo, DC search is the one I'm interested to see, that will be as important as the AggieChad hire.

Most people are disappointed. Even big sumlin haters like myself don’t want to fire a coach every 5 or so years, it’s hard to build stability in a program doing it. But we’ve given him every possible chance and he’s still mucked it up.
Then, even after all the failures he’s had here, there is still a decent sized portion of the fanbase that’s scared of the unknown and doesn’t want to fire him just because we haven’t had a truly awful, miss a bowl game, type of season under him and want to just let sumlin keep stumbling around until he lucks into another heisman trophy winner.
And there is no clear cut coach that should be our #1 target, but y’all better get used to it. If you’ve watched tu, LSU, and Nebraska hires over these last few years and learned nothing, then you’re a fool. The days of stealing a big name coach from another big program are over, unless there is some extenuating circumstance (for example T Boone Pickens pisses of Gundy and runs him off) proven coaches are not likely to move as much. So you have to take a chance and hire an unproven coach, it’s just how it works now. So there won’t be a clear cut favorite and the fanbase is going to argue and squabble over that as well.
I truly wish we weren’t looking for a new coach, so many other teams in the SEC will be looking for one as well, this would be a great time to be cementing ourselves in being a consistently competitive program without a lot of turmoil. But I’ve seen what Sumlin is capable of and he’s not going to get the job done, so we have to move on. It’s just the way it is.

Yeah you are completely correct, though Texas did get their guy. Unfortunately at this point the only hope I can find is in a Game of Thrones sense. Such as:
I hope for the love of God that some SEC East team hires Merlin so MSU can start to suck again. I am sick of losing to them. I want the damn Egg Bowl to determine who is last in the SEC West as God intended.
I want Arky to really really think they can get Chad, then we swipe him ala Herman and LSU and they are not only stuck with a second pick but then Chad has a clear talking point that their program is below ours. I hope they don't luck out with their second choice.
I want Coach O to beat Sumlin to death this season and get an extension from it. Then I want Aranda (the only elite coach at LSU) to get hired for a head coaching job this offseason and next year their program falls apart (but by then O's buyout is too big to fix it).
I hope Auburn beating us allows Gus to keep his job, only to be fired next year. I hope they don't luck out and hire three SEC Championship winning coaches in a row.
I hope Nick Saban gets taken down by a #metoo hashtag.
I hope Texas loses a lot of players to the draft and their defense takes a step back next year. I hope Lincoln Riley is OU's version of Larry Coker.
But more than all of that I hope and wish for a day when instead of hoping programs around us make mistakes and missteps that we can stop stepping on our own dicks and become better by our own merits instead. Frankly though that seems like the craziest hope of them all (well except for the Nick Saban thing, I think he doesn't like sex).

we a second rate program baw, just look at the evidence:
1) program history
2) we a pepsi school (
3) adidas school
until we change 2 & 3 we will never change 1.
but on the real, i'm less than enthusiastic about our potential hire given the schools likely looking for a new coach that we will have to compete with. i can't remember the thread where we discussed all of the possible schools looking for a new head coach this season, but i couldn't have been more wrong in my prediction. i thought this year was going to be a good year with fewer big time jobs coming open.

We may suck but Pepsi is better than Coke (Dr. Pepper is tops), and Adidas is better than Nike.

If I had ANY confidence in our decision makers I might be excited, but the Sumlin contract ruined it.

i'm pretty much of that mindset. whatever decision those in charge make, it will be the wrong one.
i'm a legit negative nancy though.

I will give the search and whoever we hire a chance but it's hard to feel positive about it considering some of the decisions that have been made. If I knew our AD was the one making the hire and not donors I would feel a lot better.

Honestly, I disagree with everyone who says that Morris is a Sumlin clone. I think he is likely better.
But for the sake of argument, let's say it's true. That actually makes the decision to fire Sumlin that much easier. Our floor during this coaching search is then basically what we have now. Only on more favorable terms.
We get to shoot for the moon, and if we miss, we still end up with a guy who has a lot going for him. We are in a much better position than LSU when they fired Miles. Heck, we are probably in a better position than Florida because, if they Miss on Frost/Mullen, then what?

How is Pepsi still in business? Who are all these Pepsi drinkers? I can’t name one person I know that drinks Pepsi.

That's an extremely easy question to answer: Mountain Dew and Powerade.

You really don’t know? I am not going to say it.

There are a lot of personalities among our top donors. But Woodward appears to have more support to make this decision than any AD we've ever had. Whether certain people interfere is still tbd though and we can't ever rule it out.

At least this time Jim Wilson has to sit in the corner and suck his thumb.

That is good to know at least

If Woodward is gong to be the one to select a new coach, then I have no reason to think he won't come up with a competent selection from the available choices.
However, if Buzbee and some of his drinking buddies are just going to go out and hire some guy, then present him as the de facto coach, them I am very worried.
Who is the decision maker here? If I knew that, I would know whether to be really concerned.

I think Morris is the ultimate parachute option, I feel better about this coaching cycle than most. The only team that I think gets their pick over us is Florida and honestly that's not a given. Florida just fired a guy after winning two straight division titles, mid way thru year 3. There are extenuating factors of course, but coaches don't love it.
We have unlimited upside, money and recruiting pool all with very little expectations or historic success. If I'm a tier 1 guy I see my name on a building and a statue. I can be their spurrier.
