You're the AD...
I would no doubt take him over Sumlin any day. But if he indeed showed interest and wanted to coach for another 5-10 years, do you get rid of Sumlin at the end of the year and hire Stoops, a proven winner and top 15 coach of all time?
Or, do you wait to see what Sumlin does and wait for an up and comer?

I don't know, but I'd like to hear a pretty detailed reason for why he left OU. That situation seemed off.

If it's a sure thing, you take Stoops.

His father died of a heart attack at his age due to the stress of coaching. He didn't want the same thing to happen.
This isn't like Urban Meyer or Mack Brown or Chip Kelly where you see them constantly. Bob Stoops has not been seen or heard from since he retired.

Well we get him a full time yoga/meditation coach. Boom, problem solved.

His health could really benefit from our lower expectations.

Nailed it. He’s not coaching again.

Sooner insiders claim he had a significant health scare, either a heart attack or a procedure to prevent an impending heart attack. Given that his dad died young of a heart attack (while coaching), it's not far fetched.

Stoops is never coaching again. He will be a god at OU until he dies. He can keep a condo there, to enjoy at his leisure, and attend any and all the OU events that he wants.
He can then live wherever he wants to live, do whatever it is that he does for fun, and fly to OU in a private jet anythime he wants.
He ain't ever coaching again.
