An old-school southern gentleman, with a special place in the hearts of Bama fans. Thanks, coach! Prayers sent.

Stallings is a class act. Guess he both wins and loses when A&M/Bama play.
Had Bama done something’s differently in the mid 90’s, he would have probably coached another 4-5 years and then Bama would not have had the dry spell from 97-07.

Thank for allowing me to sign up and post my message on the rant. I've been reading the post for the last few years and it's been very entertaining but never felt the need to comment until seeing this post about coach Gene Stallings. I've met coach Stallings on 3 different occasions and can attest that this is one of the finest human beings God ever put on the face of this Earth. The world would be a much better place if it had 100,000 Gene Stallings but since it doesn't I thank God for the one Gene Stallings he gave us. I pray for him and his entire family. I absolutely love the man, he is a real Texas gentleman. Do you realize coach Stallings never had an agent or even a written contract when he was the coach at the University of Alabama? His deal was done with just a handshake and an honest word. I'm older and I realize many of you may think this is silly or funny but I've got to say that I miss the world as it used to be when it had lots of men like Gene Stallings. Men that would look you in the eye and Shake Your Hand and what they told you you could take it to the bank. Get well coach Stallings and God bless you. I doubt I will post very often because I'm old and I'm smart enough to know the less you say the smarter you look.

Former Auburn coach Pat Dye told AL.com that doctors expect Stallings to make a full recovery. Stallings initially developed a clot and was in ICU at the Paris Regional Medical Center.

My favorite part about this is that Pat Dye is there and speaking to the press on Gene's behalf. There's just something really nice about one old-school SEC coach going to the bedside of another old-school SEC coach.
(And, yes, I know they're connected through Bama and the Bear.)

This has been about as bad a day as I can remember waking up to. Prayers for all who suffer.
Hang in, coach. We love you.

They knew each other from the coaching circuit, but they actually became friends after they both retired from coaching, from doing the radio circuit and charity fund raisers together.
