Being at the 2014 A&M game, I don't think I've ever left JH as angry as I did that night.

VOLS - 2001 SECCG

VOLS would've been playing for their 2nd National Championship in four years and imo, they were one of only two teams in the country that could've hung with Miami that year (the other being Florida).

Instead, we blow an early lead with sloppy play, fumbles and John Chavis inexplicably forgets how to defend a QB sneak executed by a future dentist. Tennessee has not been an elite program since that night in Atlanta and yes, I'm still mad.

Alabama - Kick Six

This was certainly a heart breaker for fans, but it wasn't devastating. It was sandwiched in a line of four NC's in six seasons.

I think the most devastating loss in recent times was a 21-0 loss to Southern Miss in 2000. That was the beginning of the hard times. Probation, Dubose Fired, Franchione sneaking off in the dead of night, Price fired before he even signed a contract, Shula fired. That game kicked off the worst 8 years in the program's history.

It ended up being a win. But yes, that is the correct answer as it cost us the national title.

What is it with schools associated with the military?

Navy cost us a national title.

Citadel is something we will never live down.

2011 LSU, in the moment, felt more devastating to me.

2001 Tennessee, or Georgia Southern. 1999 Alabama was pretty bad too. It ended a long home unbeaten streak.

Good to see Georgia on the giving end of a couple these. But seriously, that 02 Florida loss was a killer. That being said, we weren't jumping OSU or Miami that year.

I would disagree with this one. I know UGA is a huge rivalry game for the Gators, but...

I would say the 2009 SECCG loss to Bama was the most devastating for UF. There is no doubt that UF would have beaten Texas in the Rose Bowl to complete an undefeated season, something that Florida has never accomplished. Tebow, Spikes, et al had come back for another year to repeat and didn't get it done. Urbz had the fake heart attack, retired, unretired, had a miserable 2010, re-retired. Boom hired and commenced to suck...UF offense has been dormant ever since that year.

Yeah, it's that game for UF.

The Punt Bama Punt game was way more ridiculous than the Kick Six game when you look at it.

Auburn actually played very well in the Kick Six game and them winning was a totally just outcome.

The Punt Bama Punt game they were basically dominated the whole game and had absolutely no business winning at all.

The most devastating regular season loss ever in the SEC, at least in my lifetime, has to be the Arkansas fumble against Tennessee in 98.

That Arkansas team was undefeated late in the season, went into Neyland to face an undefeated Tennessee team, beat them straight up toe to toe, to set themselves up to win likely win their first ever SEC title and give them a shot at their first unanimous national title...

only problem is that last part didn't happen because of a bizarre, unforced fluke fumble while they were running out the clock.

2015 Arkansas is definitely up there.

2010 Jacksonville State ( ) is also up there though. That was just terrible.

Ole Miss - 1959 LSU? 2015 Arkansas?

Ole Miss claims the '59 National Championship, so it has to be 2015 Arkansas.

If they hold on and win that game, the entire course of Ole Miss football for the next few years is different. They go to Atlanta and probably win the SECCG (yes, I know they lost to Florida earlier in the season), and have an outside shot at making the CFP.

With an SEC Championship and potentially a CFP appearance under his belt, Freeze potentially survives the PR storm and keeps his job barring any show cause penalties.

Crazy to think how one play could have changed the outlook of their program.

I've only felt marginally sad for the Ags once in my life: when OU run ruled them so bad they had a running clock for most of the second half - OU won 77-0 (2003).

Ags have had some kicks in the balls but that had to be a bad day.

I'm only 32, and even I know that this is the correct answer. To his dying day, Coach Broyles never watched the film of that game. That's the epitome of devastating.

If we hang on to win (we were leading 14-0 in the 4th quarter), we win the '69 National Championship and head into the '1970s as one of the premier college football programs in the country.
