So basically what the article is saying is the Big XII could be okay if:

1) They add UH for recruiting Houston - laughable
2) Get a conference network- not happening unless Bevo/ESPN redo the Longhorn Network
3) Poach a Power 5 school - yeah I'm sure Nebraska, Arkie, or Colorado would go back

Those are some pretty big matzo balls out there to say it's in good condition.

Adding another Texas team is going to do absolutely nothing for the Big 12

Every other conference is in really good shape. There is no chance in hell a team is going to leave to go to a very volatile conference.

Nebraska: Big 10 team. Colorado: PAC-12 team. Arkansas: SEC team.

So basically the Big 12 will be fine if one of those three teams cuts their throat.

Hell Nebraska starved for years to get a full share of the pie in the Big 10 and now they will leave? Colorado mostly recruits in California so why not leave the PAC-12 just as they are starting to regain some momentum? Arkansas is getting one of the best paychecks in college sports... why not throw it away for the Big 12?

This article would be like me saying that my life is great... as long as I win a few hundred million in the lotto, have twin supermodels catering to my every sexual desire, and become immortal.

the most likely team out of the ones listed would be Colorado and that's them coming back to a conference that is much weaker than when they left. If any of the teams listed chose to go to the big 12 the meltdowns by their fanbases would be epic.

The B12 cant get a conference network....the demand is not there.

They will stay at 10 for some time. The PAC should have grabbed the Texoma Four a few years ago but they let that opportunity get away from them.

With their current Tier 3 deals both UT and OU would initially lose money to move to the PAC/B1G/ACC.

I agree that financially the B12 is better off than most think.

I still think Tech and Texas will end up in the pac 12. OU and Okie state could end up somewhere other than the pac 12. Personally I think Oklahoma would fit the best in the big 10.

There was never any real customer demand for "conference networks". This is merely an "arms race" bullshite thing created by conference chiefs for marketing purposes. Conference networks can't and won't survive on their own in the TV market. Period.

Yep. Apparently the reasoning is that the Houston recruits would go to UH instead of LSU, Aggy and Arkie. Doubtful.

It's likely that Colorado state would be just as viable of an option for the big 12. Large number of TVs one of the best campuses in the world and the potential to be decent. That being said I think OU and KU end up in the B10 within 5-6 years

The Big 12 had to take money from the conference's reserve fund to pay out revenue distributions. So while its annual revenue increased, the conference ended up reporting a $3.9 million operating deficit for the year.

Financially, the Big 12 may be worse off than we thought.

Link to the financial statements? Might have been a timing or cash flow issue but I disagree with your assessment that there are financial issues. Even if if had to borrow $3.9 million in order to distribute $340 million (of revenue actually earned) that would be a very small amount.

details please

The distributions to schools included money from the conference’s reserve fund, spokesman Bob Burda said, so while its annual revenue increased, the conference ended up reporting a $3.9 million operating deficit for the year. Its net assets still remain at nearly $30 million, according to the new return.

From 2016. These are not normal corporations that retain earnings to reinvest them. Their purpose is to distribute them to their members.

I think you might be slightly misinformed if you think this means they are in financial trouble lol.
