When I was a child, I would literally cry if I heard that man announce "TOUCHDOOOWWNNN AAAAAWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWBBBBBBBBUUUURRRRRRRN"
Traumatizing.
Traumatizing.

One of the best to ever do it in college football.

His call of the national title game is my favorite.

One of the great voices of the SEC.
Much respect

Fyffe and Munson are my two favorites

He also did a morning show in Montgomery. One of the great voices

Thought he got carried away with the Touchdown Auburn thing towards the end, but have to admit he was one of the best play by play announcers ever. Something about his voice just oozed Saturday football. He's right up there with Munson to me.
Are there any great radio play by play announcers left? Or is that a thing of the past? Forney at Bama, Fyffe at Auburn, Munson at Georgia, Cristil at MSU, forget his name, but I think Tennessee had a legendary play by play guy also.
Legendary play by play

Pretty much this. Respect, but that call got tired.

Member that time Auburn practiced and practiced how they would all coordinate a TOUCHDDDOWWWWN AUBBBBURN in memory of Jim Fyffe in 2003 and it took 3 games to get to do it?
Fyffe was great, though. Like Munson and Ward. There aren't any left like that. Passionate homers but not homers in a whiney way, homers who loved the school and would call them out if they were playing like dog shite. The best of radio.

Did LSU even sniff an SEC Title before Saban ? At least Fyffe's legacy can claim the Sugar Bowl game against Michigan.

Yep. It's what copy cats get wrong today. They get all the "we"/"us" stuff, but when things go bad they want to blame it on refs or get defensive.
Munson had no problem telling the folks at home that the Dawgs were sleepwalking or playing like crap. It made him as mad as it made the guy in the upper deck seats, and he wasn't about to let them off the hook by blaming a ref.
Skip Carey was the same way with the Braves. Steve Holman is about the only one still kickin' today who does it that way (Hawks basketball radio play-by-play).

You forgot Hawthorn of LSU who just retired a year or two ago and Mick Huber of the Gators and his OH, MY!!
The SEC has had some damn fine radio men through the years. However, I'd have to say the opposite also holds true for the color guys. There's been some whiny, homeristic, shittastic color commentators. I think Phil Savage, our current one, is pretty good and fairly knowledgeable and reasonably objective. But there are some bad ones, past and present: Doug Layton, Todd McGriff, and my all-time whiniest bitch: Stan White. Stan sounds like he's PMS'ing during every broadcast. He'll whine about a call that goes Auburn's way if they take too long to make it. And its not because he's an Auburn guy, it's just because he bitches SO MUCH!!

Yes, he was very good. Jack Cristil as well, obviously.

Fyffe's best call was in the aftermath of the LSU Jamie Howard debacle. At the end he was enraptured, in tears, and screaming "We owe this one to the Great War Eagle in the SKYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!".

Jim Fyffe painted a picture of the game over the radio. You always knew down and distance and formation before the snap of the ball, and his play by play always gave you the yardage results of the play. To many of todays announcers forget the basics.
