Modern medicine combined with computers, 3D printing, artificial intelligence, living organ donors, etc make him almost immortal.
I guess he will coach at least another two or three decades.

quote:I'm not say Bama will be 5,6 win team just the amount of pressure picking up after nick will be crazy. Football has evolved Bama from these days would most likely destroy Bama from back when Bear was coaching simply because of how players have evolved. I don't expect them to drop much but I think the championship race is going to open when he leaves
Whoever is hired will not be mentally weak but will have an ego and resume to match. Heads will not explode

He left along time ago. First to coach the Cowboys, then to the Cleveland Browns, then the Texas Longhorns ... did I miss anything?

Still won more natty in that time than LSU did....so yeah, that train is going to continue to roll.
This is not about LSU, it's about will Alabama sustain Alabama's standards of today right now. Why does the topic always have to change to be about LSU?

oh, we'll always own them, that's not up for debate.
You might want to check out the records from since 2000. LSU 9 Alabama 9. Not sure if that falls under the "own" category. You did say, we'll always own them.

Thanks for finally admitting the Les Miles did it with Sabans players at LSU.
So Saban's players were still there in 2011? What a bunch of arrogant fricking idiots. It will be glorious when that train derails. No matter what an LSU fan's response is, Alabama fan always has to turn the topic about LSU.

We all forgot that football started in the year 2000 for LSU fans.

quote:yepp basically what I was saying they'll still win but Nick will go down as one of the best so that's hard to follow up, but I am sure the process for finding a replacement when he leaves is going to involve the CIA
but the true pressure will come from having to win at such a high volume and keep the cupboard stocked from being a recruiting machine that Saban is.

He'll be there until Ms. Terry tells him he has to quit.
And while I fully appreciate the confidence of Bama fans that they will find someone worth to replace him, it might help to recall Saban's curriculum vitae when he was hired:
- 10 years HC in Power 5 conference
- 5 years HC in SEC
- 1 NC
- 2 SECCs
- Zero NFL aspirations
How likely are you to find someone with anything remotely resembling those credentials? And even more important, do you really think the Bama braintrust will give your next HC the kind of total control over the program that Saban was given when he was hired?

Zero. The best realistic shot we have is Dabo and/or Fisher, and their resumes will be impressive but not quite at that level (and I'm not sure we could get either).

Unlike pre-Saban we had an elite athletic department run by an elite athletic director. I have faith that they'll do all they can to get things right.

Saban's successor will have to be totally confident in himself and his system and will have to understand that Alabama fans, always trigger happy and irritable, will be even more so with him.
The first time Coach Z goes 9-3 Finebaum will spend the entire offseason with idiots on air talking about how Coach Z doesn't have what it takes and the program is about to enter a "insert school that fell from power" down spiral.
That's the way it'll go. And man some rednecks are going to be insufferable.

And they always conveniently forget about that little probation thingy that we had to deal with, too.

Truth! Any team that can take a shitty sub .500 college coach like Gene Stallings and field teams like he did at bama speaks to the "system" that y'all have going up there.

Patiently Hell.
I lost that about three years ago.
Best coach in college right now... I cannot wait for him to decide it is time to dedicate that skill and passion 100% to his mercedes dealership.
Or run for Governor. If he would retire I would vote for him on that reason alone.

I have a person close to the situation that thinks Coach Saban will retire from coaching due to health issues some time after 2039.
It saddens me greatly that he may only coach another 22 years at The University of Alabama.
I intend to try and enjoy the next 22 years or so that Coach Saban leads The University of Alabama to new and greater heights, as our ascent to the top will be ever so sweet.

Of course not. Saban is probably the best college coach ever. No team has ever won 4 national titles in 7 years,or at least not since integration. Nearly as impressive is that he has his team a contender for a national title 8 of the last 9 years.
As nearly impossible as it was to continue the level of success after Bryant, it will be as nearly impossible after Saban. Alabama has been the most consistent national champion contender in my lifetime, and I expect that will continue for the rest of my life, but I don't expect another Saban or Bryant.

All programs fall off at some point or another and Bama will be no different although they will always be a top 5 program.

quote:I think your biggest concern will be if the vestiges of the GOB system that fought for control of the program pre-Saban decide to reassert themselves. I'm sure there are still a few old greyheads that are thinking "Alabama football didn't become great because of Saban, we can go back to running things our way and not miss a beat".
Unlike pre-Saban we had an elite athletic department run by an elite athletic director. I have faith that they'll do all they can to get things right.
But then again, Saban may outlast all those guys. Dammit.
