How did you figure out what you wanted to do with your life?

I understand that is an off-topic message board with an eclectic group of people but I just wanted to see other perspectives that don't sound like a fluffy self-help book.

Not everyone has a purpose, or career. Some are meant to explore and enjoy the journey. Along the way if you find you enjoy something, hang with it until it becomes burdensome

What do you think about in your free time (aside from sex or sports).
What kinds of hobbies do you read about online or sites do you visit because you enjoy them?
I worked a couple of jobs after college and sort of decided which aspects of the jobs I liked the best, and then focused more on that field.

Went to college for a couple of years like s good boy. Hated the idea of being trapped in a job where I rot away in an office or desk or dilapidated school building from 23 to 70 so I left. Dug ditches for 6 months with the gas company then joined the family business which I swore I never would. I love being an hvac tech. So I guess you could say I backed into it.

Playboy magazine. I knew at a young age I was going to run arse hard for a couple of decades before settling down.
Having kids changed that and now goal has deviated quite a bit, lol

Grew up in a farming family. Tried other jobs in high school and college, but didn't have the same spark for me.

I took a job in industry, and I let them figure out what I did best. I started as a technical guy. I went to marketing, then to sales, and then to management.
I was also very flexible about working overseas. Most people won't take that step. I think it helped me get to the top faster because of less competition on the way up.
Oh, and I am very tall, and I have executive hair. (It's a real thing.)

Bought into the company of a family friend. Been running the install and access control division for the past 2 years.

I was going to work in the banking and finance sector when I got out of college.
But... a friend of mine was intimidated by a grad school entrance test because he had dyslexia. I told him I would study with him to prepare for the test. We studied for a few months for it. The day before the test, he backed out. I went ahead and took it.
I did decent on the test and started looking around at grad schools after I began working in banking and finance. I left my job and went to grad school, and did better in the grad school program than I ever did in high school or college.
So I stuck with that field from there on out.
