For as much hate as Auburn gets we seem to be one of the most consistent teams in CFB

Prior to the 1980s, Auburn had won one SEC title, and were on ncaa probation that year.

Dafuq? If anything I would put them as one of the least consistent on a year to year basis. Peaks and valleys in performance... Particularly in the last decade and a half or so.
ETA - And I mean that as a compliment. Instead of coming in consistently at 8-10 wins (see: Richt), AU had higher peaks and lower valleys during that same stretch.

If by "consistent", you mean "riding a roller coaster".

auburn is fairly consistent. Especially the last 30 years for sure. At least they are generally in the mix for the SEC. One thing I will say I think that goes against them is that they've had back to back 10 win seasons only once in their history (someone correct me if I wrong please). Aside from that they have been very consistent the last 30 years

Auburn is like a Magic Eye drawing. Up close its wildly inconsistent and a giant mess. But when you step far back and look at longer periods of time, they are one of the most consistent programs in all of college football.
Here is their recipe:
*1 GREAT season per decade (typically resulting in a Top 2 or 3 finish)
*1-2 terrible seasons per decade (somewhere around .500)
*And the balance of the 10-year period consists of 8-win seasons.
They've followed the same script since the 1950s.
