Apparently, he was told that it was against the rules and that he couldn't do it. He did it anyway, and now hopefully he will be fired

now if that is truly the case they could fire him. But how do we know he did not tell the kids this AM and was told by the AD later and things went back to square one. A Bama bud had a son who played for him at a previous school about10-12 years ago and he was well liked by the players

So who does Byrne even go after? What a giant cluster frick this is. I don't know Bama baseball that well beyond what Wells did, but I imagine this program is enduring its worst period ever. I'm confident in Byrne, but he better nail this next hire if Goof is out. Pretty important transition for the program.

Most football scholarships were yearly, until a few years back.

Supposedly, Alan Dunn would get the first look.

I'm all in on him. Not that the next HC has to have ties to the university, but it'd be nice to have a former player and a guy that coaches at the best program in the SEC.

Easy call...Battle fricked up. And this guy is a megalomaniac. You want cause? How about the alleged misappropriation of university funds implied in that letter, the threat to revoke scholarships, the rules violations at Campbell which I'm sure probably weren't revealed during his interview process. You may call it petty, but it's no more petty than his behavior towards the team, the program, the school and the alumni.
You think maybe he's hit the Jucos so hard at every stop because he burned bridges with all the high school coach?
This guy is worse than an idiot, he's an arrogant, self-absorbed idiot who thinks the rules don't apply to him.
This is Byrne's first test. It's not an easy thing to do, but cutting your losses now is the wise choice. I have confidence our new AD will do the right thing and pull the trigger. I think Goff will be offered the opportunity to resign for personal reasons, but I suspect this cocksure bastard will refuse and fight tooth and nail. However, if our AD has done his homework (and I think he has) Goff will be shown enough evidence that Bama has cause if he doesn't Stfu, he will go begrudgingly. Keep your fingers crossed that this happens soon.

Maybe I'm missing something but is there a chance he was fired earlier today? First the report came out about what Goff tried to do, then Byrne came out and said we won't be revoking any scholarships, and then minutes later we got a report saying Goff wouldn't be on Tider Insider or whatever it was to be interviewed. I know I'm just being hopeful and it probably didn't happen, but I wanted to know what y'all think.

It's hard to tell since that's the exact kind of dick move Goff has been pulling since arriving in Tuscaloosa. We can always hope that is the case.

UA can let this Jabo go now and start rebuilding the program or let this cancer grow for another season.

I would cut my losses and let him go today.

But that is just one mans opinion.

Jay Jacobs may be a buffoon, but Greg should give him a ring and find out how to fire a baseball coach w/ cause despite the coach being cleared of violations

I have to admit, that was beautifully done by Jacobs

The absolute best part was how the quote by Jay Jacobs got leaked "I'm not paying you a dime brotha' " Jacobs gets a lot of undeserved criticism. I just wish the guy could speak in front of a camera as something not a small town simpleton. A lot of people I trust speak highly of him, people with no prior AU connections and I wouldn't expect to be in ihs corner

Bryne though is a really good AD, I'm sure Alabama won't have too much issue having a favorable exit by Goff

I've been indifferent to Goff all year but I'm now firmly in the camp that he should go. He seems like a nut job who has no problem damaging the school's reputation, the players' wellbeing, or the potential of the program. Never seen a coach so universally hated before.

Byrne probably wanted to wait a year because it's usually bad form to fire a coach after only one season but I think he should absolutely make a move now. He's completely justified in firing this clown.

Yea, I would not want him fired for performance (even though it very much made next year important). However, this stuff is bush league at the least and evil at the worst.

He needs to go.
