The only person that should be fired is Jeffery

Our coaches deserve better leadership than the snowflake that is Jeff Long. He has failed at delivering the correct motivation to inspire his employees. He has failed at achieving the excellence that the U in A and the #Common fan demands.
He shouldn't be allowed to hire another coach, let alone, write another contract.

Long is starting to seem like an "aw shucks" type of AD, which we don't need right now. We need an enforcer that's going to hold the coaches accountable. He showed signs of this when he retained Pelphrey for one year too many, and now he's doing it again by letting all of our sports slide without doing anything about it.
He's supposed to be in control and he's acting like some aloof college kid that doesn't really know what his job is.

Has he been partying with Gronk?

Actually he showed signs of it when he hired MA.
It was a lazy, uninspired, and unoriginal hire.
But it made Nolan happy, so I guess that's all that counts.

He wasn't the aww shucks type with Petrino, the one time it would've benefited us

Seeing the way he's handled the repeated embarrassing shortcomings of BB and MA, vs. the rampant success and one humiliating personal oversight of BP, it makes me wonder what kind of hatred Long held toward Petrino on a personal level. I wish I knew what kind of things Bobby was apparently saying and doing to JL or other important people to make so quickly him pull the trigger on the only good coach we've had since Hatfield. It's ridiculous how different the standard seems to be.
I used to be a huge fan of Long until Bielema's retarded and confusingly advantageous contract. Then I sort of became neutral toward him. If Anderson turns out to make the tournament only one time in six years (second round at that), then he has become a clear-cut liability in my eyes.
Arkansas collegiate sports are the only major homebrewed sports we have. The level of blase attitude we're all beginning to feel toward football and basketball is surreal. The entire state is beginning to realize they'd rather quit cold turkey and do without than be subjected to the troll-like levels of bad decisions that are being displayed.

Probably because the legal team at Arkansas informed him that his only option was to fire Petrino. There was no other choice.

Thank God for Arkansas athletics! Thanks to the complete and utter shite sandwich I have endured the last two years I was able to cut the cord with no regrets last month. I was paying $175 a month to Directv and mainly all I watched was the razorbacks. It's like I'm being paid thousands of dollars NOT to watch shitty sports teams. How awesome is that??!?

I'm still surprised people seem to forget this

Oh I give him credit for acting quickly on the entire mess but we didn't have an option in the case.
Long seems like a great guy who really loves it here at Arkansas but we are getting to the point where he needs to start making some hard calls regarding the direction our programs are going in.

Same here.
I was a pretty loyal supporter of Long until I finally said "no mas" and bailed on him this year, but the Bielema extension was the first time I really started questioning his decision-making. It was profoundly stupid and myopic to give a coach that kind of contract when he was 5 games under .500 and sitting on a 2-14 record in conference play at the time. He essentially made Bielema unfireable for several years despite having no signature season or bowl victory. Also, who was coming after Bret Bielema to even warrant that contract?
I understood Petrino's extension given that the program had shown significant improvement every season, we were coming off a Sugar Bowl appearance, and it would help to quell the negative recruiting and worries he might bolt for another job. None of those reasons were applicable to Bielema's situation.

Truth be told, Jeffrey was intimidated by Bobby and was scared to death when he had to fire him.
Bobby was a dick to everyone, including Jeff Long.
Long is a puss and gets bullied by alpha types. He needs to find his balls and start holding these coaches (Bert, MA, DVH, Dykes, etc) feet to the fire and DEMAND excellence in the win loss category.

I heard several times years ago that the university would actually not have been at legal risk because of Dorell's hiring. Maybe that's wrong and was just what the people who wanted to keep Petrino wanted to believe, but I came to accept it, too.

I don't know how any one could try and claim that. Even if it wasn't going to be as bad as many thought, you are still going to have to battle lawsuits.

Yeah, but Petrino was a meanie and Jeffie likes butterflies and rainbow farts that Burt emits throughout the building.

The folks that told you that were definitely wrong. Petrino was losing the job one way or another.

THIS!!!!
without this done the way it was, lawsuits were going to be abundant. the media scrutiny alone was outstanding, can you imagine any other real option.
