Everybody knows the refs suck. What are some things the NCAA can/should do to fix it?

I'd personally like to see crews that have a performance similar to the crew working the UF @ USC get suspended and docked their pay check for the terribly called game.

Also think crews should not call games on back to back nights.

This game reminded me of the Memphis game last year. No flow whatsoever due to the obscene amount of whistles. They called some ticky tack stuff, yet let some muggings go. Absolutely pathetic on both sides.

Wouldn't suspending a crew for having a bad game likely mean a worse crew would replace them

Officials should have to answer media questions like the teams.

Also, Teddy Valentine sucks.

We've been getting terrible phantom fouls all season. Refs from what I understand are simply working too many games night after night and the overwork shows. Hell a lot of times they're working multi-conferences. Basketball has too many teams and too much money not to be able to afford expand the referee pool and pay them better which would draw better professionals. IIRC, right now it's a part time job for a lot of them and while bball has season's like any sport I think they need to make these full time job.

But for the past few seasons poor refereeing has made men's bball extremely hard to watch. What's even crazier is that refs in the women's game allow far more contact than refs in the men's game these days. They let 'em play and that's what men's hoops needs to do as well.

Players could foul less.

Probably scratch the whole "freedom of movement foul" idea. It's ruining CBB.

Best solution I can come up with...

Go to a four quarter game. Team fouls reset at the end of each quarter. This will help eliminate stoppage for millions of free throws throughout game.

Go back to what a foul used to be. Games are getting longer with the more whistles we have. 50 fouls called in a game is just too many.

Since Bama is not as focused on basketball, we don't compensate BB referees, resulting in lower quality officiating.

If we can at least become a tournament team most of the time, we'll be fanatical about that sport too and properly reward the officials for giving us the calls.

Sorry we haven't given this proper priority. We'll see what we can do.

I hate the way games are called now. Apparently, a defender is supposed to just get out of the way. If two players touch, it's a foul.

I'd like to see crews fined.

A panel of retired referees should review games with excess fouls and/or controversial calls that effected outcomes.
