I mean, why not honor the victims with a ribbon or a jersey patch?
Wearing SMOKE GRAY uniforms to honor fire victims is a little tasteless, don't you think?
That's like UCONN wearing BLOOD RED uniforms to honor the victims of the Newtown shooting.
Jesus Christ, you can't make this shite up!

You're late dumbass. One of your retarded friends already brought up that retarded point. And prof beat them down

I'm pretty sure most all of us on the SEC Rant understand the uniforms and their meaning.
However, the casual observer who drops in to watch Tennessee-Nebraska in the MCB is probably much less likely to fully understand, and when they see "Tennessee to wear smokey/smoky gray uniforms for bowl game" it could seemingly come off as odd.
Most of us commenters aren't trying to rile you up about it. It just seems incredulous that PR would not think about that possibility.

Haven't the victims suffered enough????

The fact that y'all have to try to explain what it actually means to us is exactly why it's questionable.

OP didn't explain but I'm actually surprised this came from you. You know the geography and presumbly know that the Smokys are famous for the rings resembling smoke which are often gray or grayish blue in color. Real question: Have you followed this story at all? I mean REALLY followed it? It's a helluva lot bigger than a simple wildfire and far worse than property damage.
At any rate, THIS IS WHY:
I didn't actually think in terms of the Great Smoky Mountains, though I'm pretty familiar with the area. Been hiking and sky-dipping all around the region. There's this wonderful point in Tennessee near the borders of NC and Georgia where...well, that's another story. I get your point, but the way OP phrased it as supporting fire victims, so "smoky" to "fire" seemed like the natural logical leap to make.
As I said, I get what they're trying to do. I don't fault the motivations. Even with that clarification, it seems they probably could have thought about the implications.

The handwringing over some fricking uniforms. Jesus Christ.

Fire--Smokey Mountains--smoke from
fire--smoke is colored grey--wear
grey uniforms.
Meh. Just seems like a real stretch
to me but whatever.

Kinda odd but Nebraska fans have already praised us for this and said they're 100 percent behind the idea. I doubt they know the symbolism beyond confusion over the word. tRant is simply being tRant.
As for announcers... again they will be the ones presenting it to the nation and that matters. It sets the tone but to be franks the only folks who matter when it comes to this are those in East, TN in and around the area. An act like this will be forgotten by everyone else.
ETA: I also don't believe for a moment that the casual fan tuning in mid-game or whatever will give the uniform a second thought except maybe to think 'damn they should wear UT orange, damn that's sweet looking, or damn what a fugly uniform.' You're ascribing far too much thought to it all.

No place other than tRant requires it.

I know tRant is filled with tards, but I can't believe this is that hard for y'all.
The fires took place in the Smoky Mnts. The jerseys are named after the SMOKY Mnts and the helmet depicts those Mountains in their honor.
It's really simple, the fires took place in the Smoky Mnts, the team is wearing the jerseys that honor those mountains in recognition of the tragedy that recently occurred there.
My guess is they will also auction them off after the game for that cause.
Now STFU, simpletons

It's pretty messed up to call your mascot (and mountains) "Smoky" just to troll some fire victims.
Definitely NOT life-champion material, Tennessee

Doubtful. Nike did a nice uniform for Katrina relief in 2007. Turns out $1 for each $85 jersey was donated.

Does the Nike marketing have to be on everything that UT does??

No Life Champion Logo on the jersey no care. I also heard Dobbs was the only one to volunteer during the fires. The rest of the team didnt want to get their eyebrows burned off.
