How does the Alabama 2016 D compare to LSU 2011 D?

So came across this highlight video from LSU against Oregon in 2011 over on the Tiger rant.

But looking at their defense, it reminds me of Alabama's current defense more than Alabama's D at that time. More ballhawking, athleticism, less about size and strength (although still plenty strong).
Overall I think it's a good comparison.

This Alabama D is like the middle ground between 2011 LSU and 2011 Bama in terms of style imo.

We'll find out the answer to that question when they play Ohio State/Clemson in the national championship game.

Maybe Clemson. Ohio St's offense hasn't done well against the better defenses they have played. If JT can't be accurate passing the ball against Bama, they might not even score.

This.
11 LSU still had more speed, but 16 Bama has plenty and they're bigger. 16 Bama has much better LBs too.

Two best defenses I ever saw were the Alabama and LSU 2011 defenses.
This Alabama defense of 2016 is close, especially if you look at the last half of the season. I'm one who is okay with letting a college team improve as the season wears on and it matters far more how you end than how you begin.
The only defenses that compare, to me, are the 2001 Miami defense and the 1992 Alabama defense. But, those were both different eras.
If I had to pick one defense out of all of them, it would probably be the 2011 LSU Defense, not because they were the best, necessarily, but because they were the most fun to watch unit I personally have ever seen. I would just laugh week in and week out. They were that good. Even in the 21-0 game, they were amazing and laid their guts out on the field and didn't give up that TD until the end.

enlighten us, please.
LSU 2011 - gave up 11.28 ppg
Bama 2016 - gives up 11.41 ppg
LSU 2011 - 7 games of single digit points given up in 14 games
Bama 2016 - 6 games of single digit points allowed in 12 games
LSU 2011 - zero shutouts
Bama 2016 - 2 shutouts
LSU 2011 - 3 games of 20+ points allowed in 14 games
Bama 2016 - 2 games of 20+ points allowed in 12 games
They look pretty comparable to me on the surface.
