Are you Tenn fans officially off the Butch wagon?

I know the league seems to be making fun of him a lot, but that's par for the course. What do the Vol faithful think about him?

I'm fairly certain V&S was off the Butch wagon before the end of last season, much less this season.

Butch is a solid recruiter but he's not set the world on fire with his game day coaching ability.

He lost me in 2015. He lost 99% of us on this board after Bama and SC. He lost Prof and Walt after Vandy.

Lyle is done, it's over. The only thing that can save him now is an SEC East title in 2017 (which won't happen), and that's only gonna get half the fanbase back, at best.

He lost me forever. And it's not just his coaching record, it's his cliche ridden pressers and his smug attitude. He's never taken responsibility for any of the numerous errors he's made. NEVER. And in my mind, that's unforgivable.

Wrong

Not only can Butch not recruit well, he fails to develop the talent he somehow does get.

Not really, he's had more busts than other P5 coach in the last 4 years. This recruiting class should have been one of the best in school history, and it's setting up to not even break the top 25 come signing day.

Injuries killed him this year.

Did we have injuries? Yes, a lot of them.

Is that an excuse for giving up 2,000 yards on defense in your last 3 games? Absolutely fricking not.

Should we have better depth in year 4? Most definitely.

Next man up isn't enough some times.

If Bama had that many injuries, then we'd have dropped games and we're deeper.

He coached a few stinkers but he was unfortunate that health derailed him. It's a good squad at full strength.

At nearly full strength we needed a lucky fumble recovery to beat Appalachian State in overtime, at home.

The only time this team played up to its potential all year was the second half against Florida. Had we played every game like that, we'd be 11-1 and be looking at a potential playoff spot.

This team, even with injuries, was capable of so much more than they produced.

It's just that kind of year. Sumlin lost Old Sarge after Ole Miss.

I'm 99% off the bandwagon, but with our record before he came in I don't think he's done poor enough to warrant a firing after two 9-4ish seasons. He is the reason that 9-4 this season is considered underachieving where 3 years ago it would be celebrated.

I have no faith he can ever do any better than a 9-4 type season, but I think he deserves one more shot.

If he can get 10 wins next season he would warrant another shot after that to see if he can win a title.

If either of those two things don't happen the next two seasons (10 wins next year) or (title in 2018) then he should be let go after whichever happens first.

Yep. I was off the Butch Wagon after the choke job against Oklahoma and the Florida and Arky losses after that last season didn't help.

He'll 100% be back as our coach unless he leaves so I might as well hope against all odds he figures it all out this offseason. There is a Lloyd Christmas shot at it happening but hopefully a miracle happens!

Butch struck a gold mine with the legacy players in the 2014 and 15 classes. But he's not actually that exceptional of a recruiter. Loves to sign a large number of prospects (mostly 3* and low 4*) to get a high class ranking, then he processes the unneeded ones down the road. Comparable recruiter to McElwain, but a much worse talent developer, and obviously worse as an ingame coach. Also, this cycle we have MULTIPLE big fish literally right in our backyard that are looking elsewhere. If Butch can't secure guys like Tee Higgins and Trey Smith (Amari Rodgers was never coming to UT) it's kinda worrisome.

And I haven't been "on the bandwagon" since pre-UF 2015, but wanted to give him a chance this year. He's resoundingly failed. USCe was the last straw for me, and Vandy was just icing on the cake, confirming what I already knew. Butch isn't getting it done here.

I dunno man.....injury bug caught up with the Vols. Vol fans would no more as to if he is recruiting up to their expectations and developing them.

They played pretty well first half of the season...a little shaky but they won. They lost an OT game to a hot Aggie team on the road then got mudholed by Bama.....but everyone is getting mudholed by Bama.....USCe and Vandy are sort of head scratchers....but that Bama loss and with the injuries I think the team just quit on him....

I think 9-4 (10-4) if he wins his bowl is a little harsh to fire him for particularly if the recruiting class is shaping up nicely. It's not like he had a Charlie Strong type season.
