Recently drove from Birmingham to Baton Rouge, and there was a noticeable difference when I hit Meridian. At least the stretch I drove on, MS was better than AL. And not too bad in LA. I65 isn't that bad either now that they have repaved a long stretch in Shelby county. You would leave Birmingham headed south, and feel like you're riding on bricks until you hit the Chilton county line. The interstates through Birmingham are all shite though. Too much traffic and they don't maintain them.

Let me clue you in. Our infrastructure is shite everywhere
This ^^^^. Political warfare has basically crippled America's infrastructure to the point of simple side street projects being held up in red tape for months, if not years, in local and statewide jurisdictions. It really doesn't matter if you are a Southerner, from the North, Midwest, Great Lakes, northeast. The problems with roads and construction projects are everywhere. That's the price we pay for not wanting our taxes raised. That money to repair shite has to come from somewhere. You know damn well the millionaires and billionaires don't want to front the cash. That leaves it up to us. But when these cities lose population, they lose the tax base. And the disaster begins.

You went through Arkansas to go around Louisiana?

Did your horse lose a shoe or something?

yes, until the roadbed ages and then becomes unlevel....

If you were as smart as you think you would fly to Birmingham rent a car and drive to T-town. 6 lanes in good shape once you get out of B-ham. 459 to 59-20 is your best choice from airport.

Concrete is superior to asphalt in every way.
The only place concrete is superior to asphalt is durability. It costs more, less smooth of a ride, takes longer to install, and has to be repaired more often.

Usually better to be in a car. Donkey caravans tend to be rough i hear, although maybe easier to have some aggie fun with them at rest stops?

Op, Texas roads are long overdue for an overhaul. Especially in Houston.
I-10 is good.
But 45/290/59 are all crap.
Don't get me started on the roads inside the city.

A big part of it is that the federal gas tax has risen with the cost of keeping up roads. Godspeed to whoever tries to get that past
On the other hand, Government road jobs are filled with cronyism and shitty contractors.

"Philadelphia area"
Amazing the roads are not great, considering the democrats run the place and tax the citizenry to death.. Haven't we all been told that more revenue to the gov't makes things better?

I drive down to Alabama from Kentucky 2-3 times a year and the difference is noticeable as soon as you cross the Alabama line...
It goes from smooth quiet to this.

Believe it or not, I-20 gets worse the further west you go
I don't know if it's still this bad, but the first time I drove on I-20 to Georgia, I must have pulled off the road 2-3 times to just to make sure I didn't have a flat.
