Any of y'all know if this might cause the game to be moved to another date or moved to Athens? I know the projections are showing a more western turn now
Just wanted yalls thoughts on this

If it moves, they should try to get into the Dome. Hopefully it won't have to move, but if a strong cat 4 or cat 5 slams into the SC coast, i don't see how the game could be played.
Conversely, neither team will be playing in the SECCG, so they could delay it.

I'd rather them move the date than go to the Dome. We had to deal with moving home games last year.

Was talking with my pilot buddy earlier today. He's been flying in and out of South Florida and the Caribbean for 30 years ... and he and I agreed, Matthew is going to turn hard east and miss us.
I'm not worried about the game this weekend in the least. We're not even boarding up the beach house.

The projected track has it off of the SC coast about 2pm on Saturday. I hope it turns away, because it's a huge storm. Anything that hugs the coast will cause showers and a little wind in Columbia.

While I don't have 30 years flying experience I am a pilot for JetBlue based in FLL, but do live in Greenville. I have to disagree with this. I flew one of our last flights out of Jamaica before the cancelations went into effect and this has turned into a massive storm. The further it drifts westward, the worst it is for the SC coast. A good friend of mine is stationed with the 53rd WRS, and flies one of the Hurricane Hunters. He said the Bermuda High has intensified significantly, and that from his personal experience is this thing is going to make a landfall on the SC/NC coast.
I hope its nothing more than a little rain, as I don't want to lose another home game after last year.

Of course, the ONE game I can make this year is in jeopardy because of a freaking hurricane.
Been waiting for this weekend for many months. Really hope this thing heads elsewhere.

Well ... no tellin'. It'll be interesting to see which way it goes over the course of the next few days.
If it barely skirts the coast it'll suck all the bad weather away with it as it passes by.
If it skims our coast and makes landfall along the outer banks then that could spell a lot of moisture for us come game time Saturday night.
Looking at it again tonight I do see where some of the models are now showing a possibility of it turning west once it passes Florida ... I just don't see it making landfall in SC, but I could be wrong. I usually get these things right by instinct and feel, and so does Michael, but who knows.
I hear Spurrier told his groundskeeper not to worry about boarding up his place on Crescent Beach so he must be thinking it is going to stay well east of there as well.
You flying for JetBlue out of South Florida Randy ... we probably know some of the same people. My youngest daughter's husband works for JB. Michael has a pretty good connection with them as well.

I have a bad feeling on 5 his one boys. Just feels like it is gonna hit us straight on. Been a while we are due.
Then it could be I feel for buddies at Camp Lejeune, not sure yet. Tomorrow will be a better day to say. Wanna get a look at models and readings.

Eh.. If its coming to us here in Charleston, then I will send the wife and kids upstate and the Hurricane party and grill session will be in Summerville boys.

I live in Spartanburg, so hopefully we won't feel much of the effects from it. I'm down in a bit of a hole from the road so when it rains a lot, my yard turns into a river haha

Latest prediction has it taking a MUCH stronger hook to the west and Charleston ia definitely in its sites. Wilmington looks to be hammered as well bc of the size of this storm.
And, interestingly, the storm appears to be dodging back and forth in the slightest little wobbles so that the eye is barely, if at all, making direct landfall over Haiti/Jamaica/Bahamas if movement projections remain true. **Haiti is actually getting a direct hit, but the storm has wobbled so that it is missing the mountanous areas that would have done the most damage to the storm itself. Also, forecast models now have almost all agreed that this sucker is gonna be very, very close to Charleston.
It's churning up colder water bc it is moving so slowly, yet it is still strengthening and when it hits the Gulf Stream, that sucker is gonna rev its engine like a mofo. Pressure is extremely low and the eye is small and keeps recycling itself so this storm is serious as frick.
I would absolutely take this beast seriously even if you live up to 100 miles inland at the VERY LEAST...and obvi that is not by road distance but by air...y'all know hurricanes don't exactly drive. Sounds stupid, but so many ppl say shite like, "Well, I live in (whatever town) and we are 100 miles from the coast so I'm not that worried"....100 miles by driving, sure...that can be as little as 75 miles or less by air which makes a huge difference.
And WG...if you plan on coming for the game, even now not knowing the status of it for sure, I would absolutely recommend hotel reservations. Evacuees from the coast are gonna be flooding any available inland hotel rooms so I would imagine Cola is gonna be pretty packed.
Y'all stay safe and I hope this thing does turn hard east...but personally (and as a serious weather nerd), I think we may be in for a very rough ride with this one. We've dodged bullets for years since Hugo and I think our luck just may have run out. Hope and pray I am wrong.
ETA: And pray for me...I will be heading towards the coast, not away from it. Have been a storm chaser (tornado and hurricane) for years. Rode Hugo out 10 miles inland from Folly along with a host of other hurricanes on the eastern seaboard and a couple in the gulf. Even have paid to go tornado chasing in the midwest with a group called Silver Lining Tours several times. Sick adrenaline junky, but everybody has their weaknesses, I guess.

I respect your opinions, but I don't see how you can't at least be a little worried in your mind, even if these things typically take the hard turn away from land.

On a side note, Clempson is on the road this weekend, we COULD play there if needed.

Hugo knocked the $#!+ outta Charlotte back in 89 and it's much farther inland than Cola.

Here we go... friend of mine lives at the beach and just texted me to say that Horry County Zone - 1 is expected to go under a mandatory evacuation tomorrow. Not sure exactly what zone-1 is but doesn't sound good.

If they relocate, it's going to Athens IMO.
If the projection models remain accurate, the difference in weather between Clemson and Athens won't be substantial. I can just see our AD going through the motions of working with the UGA AD to relocate like we did last year, rather than having to find a neutral site.
From a fan perspective, this is total bullshite. Two years in a row of this crap, with an already unlucky SEC schedule, and an already disadvantaged team. Why doth the football gods spite us so?

we talked about it yesterday, I think now we're planning on just heading towards home adn seeing how far we can make it. It's not THAT far so we can probably get back home, if not we'll just stay somewhere in GA.

Yeah ... things have changed. The new storm track was just released minutes ago and now they are projecting it to make landfall right around Myrtle Beach. Randy was right.
This has not been my year so far - crap.
Waiting for my Son to get here - we're about to grab plywood and head to the beach. Dammit.
The game does not need to be moved though. It's only supposed to be a Cat 2 and that might dump a lot of rain in Columbia as far out as it will be but ... hell, who knows, I've been so wrong about everything lately who knows. Lost my mojo I guess.
FWIW we lived on the IOP when Hugo hit and we came inland to our lake house ... hell, Columbia and Charlotte both were hammered by Hugo. But if you drew cross hairs through the satellite shot of the eye of Hugo as it passed over the IOP ... the cross-hairs, dead center bulls-eye in the middle of the eye, passed right over our home on the IOP.
We were at the beach (Myrtle) a couple of years ago expecting a small hurricane/tropical storm to make land ... ended up watching it pass off shore.
You never know about these things ... but it sure does look like it is going to make landfall somewhere around Little River Saturday evening.

My in laws live on the coast. They are being evacuated. I was told that hotels are full up.
