2013 OL
Kublanow 4*
Cardiello 3*
Bynum 3*
Welch 2*
2014 OL
Wynn 4*
Sims 4*
Baker 4*
Edwards 3*
Bonus- Gaillard (5* DT) recruited as DT but has worked his way to starting guard
2015 OL
Allen 4*
Madden 3*
Hardin 3*
Jurkovic 3*
2016 OL
Cleveland 4*
Barnes 3*
Kindley 3*
Catalina *?
Catalina is missing from 247 signing classes...
17 total offensive linemen.
Only 6 were rated 4 stars or higher.
Before you say stars are meaningless... Look at who the 4 stars are above and look at our starting line. There is a direct correlation.
Now, if I go run these numbers for Ole Miss, Bama, Tenn, LSU... are they going to have more, less,or same # of 4* offensive linemen on their rosters right now?

To follow up and show a recruiting difference..
Right now Kirby has 3 OL commits rated 4* in the 2017 class.
If that's all he signs, 2017 and 2018, he'll have the same amount of 4*'s that Richt left him with after 4 classes.
In four years, he'll have 12 4* OL to field a 5 man line with, double what he has to work with right now.

Interesting.
So OM has the same number of 4* OL recruits as Georgia on the roster.
And 3 more total recruits at the position.
That's sad.
When LSU and Bama are done raping their state of all the best players, Ole Miss and Miss St split the leftovers, and yet OM still has slightly better OL recruiting than Georgia.
Clearly there's a problem.

Richt used a finesse offense that you threw to run.
We are the opposite and it is not working with the ol we have.

Really hurts that Allen didn't pan out as a tackle, and has been moved to guard if I'm not mistaken, and that Baker isn't good enough to beat out a RI grad transfer. If those two guys had turned out to be solid bookend starters, we would be set.
Unfortunately, it's going to take a couple of years to fix that OL.

Sidenote.... We have 3 WR commits right now... the shortest one is 6-2.

Yep, our class rankings over the years have been skewed by skill players. Our recruiting in the trenches, where it counts most, was less than stellar during Richt's tenure.

All of that is true, but OL is probably the hardest position to project, and that is why you have to be absolutely relentless in recruiting. Landing one it you think will be an anchor and then calling it a day won't do it. You have to sign deep classes because there are guys who just won't pan out. Sometimes their frames can't take the stress of added weight, sometimes the added weight slows them down too much, and sometimes they just can't put on the necessary weight, or sometimes they just aren't mean enough. No reason not to take at least 4 or 5 OL on every single class.

Let's look at Bama.

Bama has 20 OL's.
17 are 4 star or higher.
And we only have 17 total, and only 6 that are 4 star or higher.
But I understand that Bama is the gold standard, it's not fair to compare us to them...
So lets move on to LSU. Standy by.

I think I see a pattern here. Perhaps the key to some of Sabans success.
What I don't see is Oline classes of 0, 1 or 2....or even 3.

Waitaminute.... you mean in order to play well and compete consistently in SEC football you need to focus on building quality and depth on the offensive line?
No fricking way.....

Total of 20 on the roster from those four classes.
To our 17.
And they had a dumpster fire coaching change in the mix. It's a little odd they only took three this year, but after taking a total of 12 in the previous two classes, it's understandable. They had other needs to fill. The talent level is a little underwhelming too. I would have expected more 4 stars. Maybe Jimbo took them all.

So....having a mobile QB (ala TN) allows you to get by with a lower quality OL. That explains their success with a smaller OL talent pool. The rest of these breakouts support your thesis.
We have developed the Perfect Storm of offense purgatory. Immobile QB, small receivers that can't get open and a bad OLine.

I googled and found nothing as far as a recruiting rating. I did find that he had one of those jiffy rig NCAA recruiting profiles that 65% of high schoolers (including my son) make for themselves. I'm guessing he wasn't rated by recruiting services as a senior in Mass?
