At the end of the game counted, would Les have been fired today? Would Gus have been fired today?

No way Gus would've been fired today

Bad year to look for a head coach.

Les obviously would still be here, Gus would not have been fired until the end of the season.

I don't even know if that would be the case, I think barring a catastophic collapse, Gus has one more year. Just one man's opinion.

Even if that's the case, he has not earned that much rope.
The man had one good season, and followed it up with 8-5 and 7-6.
If he goes 7-6 again, I think it's safe to say that's just the kind of record you can expect with him. And I think this program deserves better.

I refuse to think about that.

There is no reason to fire a coach midseason without cause. It costs more money and has zero benefits.

The potential benefit is you play better... That's what happened at USCw when they fired kiffin and promoted orgeron to interim HC.

Coach O beat only 1 team with >7 wins. Rarely if ever does an interim coach perform at that level anyways.
You aalready have an abortion of a season on your hands, no reason to start trying to throw away more buyout money

It was still an improvement over lane... The fact EO has done it before at another high profile program is a positive.

Les would still be LSU's coach, and Gus would still be Auburn's. LSU winning would have delayed the inevitable for Les and cranked up the heat on Gus, but no one would be fired.

AU did let them march down the field. It was xLes, but not like they were going to fool us with a run.
There were lots of issues on the last play, but they did score a fake TD. Where was the breakdown? Hopefully Gus is not sitting on some pile of laurels today. Never let any game be decided by refs....and this is not ITAT conspiracy.

I don't think that he has "earned" that much rope, just that outside influences like the Presidents retirement will factor into when and if Gus is fired.

This. LSU fans are giddy about a horrible situation.

I agree... but there's still time for a justin fuentes type guy to step up this season and become a hot name.
If I'm UK, I'd take a hard look at Braum from wku.
