Leadership, mobility, upside and the ability to step up and win a big game and not look like a deer in headlights

Umm... this is an example of hype? What I got from that article was Sumlin's job depends on Knight not throwing games away. That's not "hype".

Look, I'm not saying he won't be good for the Aggies, but this is just silly. His career average passer rating is 124.9. This board loves to make fun of how bad Brandon Harris was last year, and his passer rating was 130.6. And his average yards/attempt were 7.8. Trevor Knight's average yards/attempt for his career is 6.3. And in the year he started every game, Perine went for over 1,700 yards so he had a safety valve to protect him. I would withhold judgment on him until he plays a few games.

aggies have to get their hype in early. the window will close after they hit the meat of their schedule and begin their annual free fall into the abyss of college football.

I don't really buy this either. This is the first time in the Sumlin era where they can rely on the defense to keep them in every game. What's ironic about it is that the common belief is that Chavis left LSU because of offensive woes, so he goes to a place that has all of the offensive hype, and now he is being relied on again to keep his team in games because the offense is so inconsistent.

That has occurred to a few Aggies as well .

but...I can't figure out the hype surrounding Knight.

He beat Alabama.

For reference, see:

Manziel , Johnny
Kelly, Chad
Garcia, Steve

If you beat Alabama, further meaningful accomplishments like actually winning a championship aren't really required.

Compared to the other starting QBs in the Sumlin era:

1. He's not a prima donna
2. More mature...and he's a senior
3. Has experience in Power 5 games
4. Doesn't have the expectations surrounding a 5-star recruit/Heisman candidate
5. Better leadership

With all the QB drama of their past couple of seasons, I think he's just what A&M needed this year...no QB controversy, a calmer presence, and he's capable of handling/managing the offense...doesn't have to be a superstar...

A&M had 2 maybe 3 good games from its 2 chump QBs last year.

I think we expect that even if Knight doesn't have the "high end" ceiling, he won't give up on his teammates.

2 years ago we lost to Bama 59-0 and then beat Louisana-Monroe 21-16. We were bad, but the next week, went to Jordan-Hare and beat (#3 at the time) Auburn.

The last time we saw Trevor Knight in a meaningful game he was busy going 5-16 for 76 yards and an interception vs. TCU after Baker Mayfield got a concussion. They won the game by 1 after being up 17 in the second half.

The year before he threw for 2300 yards with 14td's and 12 interceptions. Stats that one poster alluded to as strikingly similar to Brandon Harris. And now he is going to start in the SEC behind an offensive line starting a redshirt freshman at center and a true freshman at left guard. The right guard has never started a game in his life and the right tackle has a grand total of 1 career starts (bowl game vs. Louisville). Knight is going to get killed behind that line and no running game.

Nah. He gets the ball out too fast. It might be to the opposing team, but at least he didn't take a sack.
