My girlfriend's nephew had a birthday, we went to get his present here in San Antonio Saturday. He likes tcu. Went to lids at the mall...no TCU hats to be found. I told the guy there TCU is the best team in the state, and he laughed...didn't even know where it was.
UT and Aggy shite everywhere though.
I know... :csb:

Sumlin and Strong are clearly worth their pay checks.

I believe there's only about 50k TCU fans in the entire state.

How in the hell is Baylor in the top 25?
They're gonna lose several games this year as a result of the fallout of their rape culture/coverup.
The media, in general, is just awful these days.

Why Baylor even ranked. Grobe is going to do his normal 5-7.

you couldn't rack up 10k people in this state that could tell you something about all 3 schools. NO ONE HERE cares about them. They can be ranked all they want, they are irrelevant in their own state. It's always been that way and while it's funny to troll when you get the chance, Texas and TAM will always be "the" schools

Seth Russell, Shock Linwood, KD Cannon for starters. I don't know how good they'll be, but they have enough players and remaining elements of their offensive staff to be an 8-9 win team I'd think.
NW State - W
SMU - W
@ Rice - W
Oklahoma St - Toss Up
@ Iowa St - W
Kansas - W
@ Texas - Toss Up
TCU - Toss Up
@ Oklahoma - L
Kansas State - W
Texas Tech - W
@ West Virginia Toss Up
Split the toss ups and they go 9-3

And the back up Johnny Jefferson is very good too. Say what you want about Briles via the scandal, but he was one hell of a coach and evaluator. He was also very well respected by the HS coaches here.

Maybe.
It's a good school, but it is small and has zero bandwagon fanbase.
They have a jewel-box 45,000 seat stadium (nicer than Baylor's, maybe the nicest of its size around) that they struggle to get 30,000 to for big games.

Yea people in Houston don't really talk about Houston. There are more Aggie and UT fans here than UH.

I believe that they're just setting this ranking based on the raw potential of the athletes Baylor still has left after the rush of transfers.
Once actual play begins, they'll fall out of the top 25 and not re-enter it.
They DO have a much higher overall talent level than they did before Briles, but Briles - whatever else everyone may have to (justifiably) say about him in terms of character - is a nasty good coach and they are gong to feel the impact of the loss of his brain behind their offense immediately.

It's like the 1980s all over again.

Yeah, the Hogs had this same sort of deal after Petrino left. A talent laden team that people expected to still be a contender the following year.
They only won 4 games.
Baylor is not going to be nearly as good without Briles. Simple as that.

A vaguely decent team can rack up a lot of wins with that schedule. I mean a LOT of wins.

Yep. 3 OOC cupcakes and your road games at Iowa State, Texas, Texas Tech, WVU and Oklahoma plus gimmees at home vs Kansas and probably Kansas State.
That's 7 wins almost guaranteed.

WTH is going on in Texas?
I really thought A&M would make huge benefits from Texas being down and the aggies being in the SEC.
It seems like an opportunity has been squandered.
Do not get me wrong, from an infrastructure POV they are killing it. I just expected more in terms of recruiting and on the field success.

I've lived in the Houston area for 18 years and I can tell you there aren't many U of H fans even here. Even people I know that went there don't care that much about sports.
I've seen a few TCU fans over the years but not that many. My neighbor's son was a back up kicker on the Rose Bowl champion team so he's a big fan.
I think Baylor has a pretty good following though. I know a lot of Baylor fans and see their gear quite a bit around here.
