When your on top there is only one direction to go.

Probably down to where they've been throughout their history apart from a barren stretch from the late 90s-early 2000s

I really don't think they move much. Kids go to play for the Alabama name, and the chance to play on Sunday, not necessarily Nick Saban. I think he built the system that way.
ETA: look at LSU for example

Nick Saban approaches, and leans in to whisper in your ear...
"You're."

The floor for Alabama post-Saban would be LSU post-Saban since Alabama is a better football program than LSU.

We'll go from being the absolute best team over a 10 year stretch to probably only being 2nd or 3rd best team over the next 10 years...

Not sure, but I would not want to be the next coach. He is almost doomed to failure compared to what Saban has done.

Anchor this thread until Bama hires someone. There's no way to know if they're getting a John L. Smith/Houston Dale Nutt type or an Urban Meyer type with Saban still firmly entrenched in his position

Well that would make sense if bamas floor hadn't already been much lower than current LSU

Luckily for Alabama, Saban's shoes are tiny.

And current LSU would be the floor to several of Bama's decades long runs in the past.

You have it backwards. Saban has actually been holding us back.

Unless he stops recruiting the next coach should at least win a national title. After that it depends on who they hire.
Dabo would be a good hire but Venables has really helped elevate Dabo.

They will go back to losing to Auburn and Tennessee most of the time

The talent level will be ridiculous for whoever gets the job. Anybody who doesn't want it because of the fear of not meeting expectations isn't the right guy for the job.

Mark my words, it'll be Dabo.
