I think it's amazing. Dad kills mom and then kills self ('legedly). Kid still manages to grow up to not be a complete PoS with a lot of odds stacked against him. Matter of fact, seems like a good kid with a positive demeanor. I can't imagine.
If anything, this doc reconfirmed my belief that we should have a pro ball farm system. Ollie may not deserve to be in college but he's clearly physically talented. The fact that he has to pretend to care about school to get his shot is absurd.

Honestly, very depressing.
College athletics across the board is pretty depressing and not for the faint of heart. It is predatory in nature and while there are plenty of success stories, there are just as many that are victimized by it. A lot of it begins and ends with recruiting; prospects aren't properly informed or educated about what they're actually getting themselves into (athletically and academically).
In a lot of cases, you're talking about taking an underprepared kid with delusions of grandeur out of a low socioeconomic setting and piling on the mental and personality hurdles of every college student (and in some cases the first generation college student and African American male college student hurdles as well) along with the immense pressures of being a high profile athlete at a high profile university. It can get real dark real quick when the proper support systems aren't in place and that's to say nothing of what happens to these people when they leave school (with or without a degree) and find out that they're either not healthy or not good enough to continue playing a game they've staked everything on (including and especially their identity).
We as fans have it so damn easy; our side of the equation is incredibly enjoyable. The student-athlete and coaching side of the coin, though...

But for what reason is he not deserving of being in college (and keep in mind we're talking about a D-II or D-III public university, not Harvard or UVA or Cal-Berkeley)?
Look at his family background (or lack thereof) and look at the school system he attended in the community tin which it was located. That kid never had a chance in hell of ever being taught anything other than his physical stature and talent on a football field being the only thing that mattered about him. If EMCC does one thing right, it's showing guys like Ollie that his value as a person can extend far beyond what he does on a football field.
For this reason and for the fact that Ollie's playing career is going to come to an end sooner rather than later, I have no problem with colleges and universities admitting guys that have lower academic profiles and clean behavioral records. Someone needs to teach them about life and, obviously, our public school system isn't going to do it. So what's wrong with a kid physically working his arse off to mentally better himself?

Man that coach is a gigantic a-hole

Head Coach is a jack-arse. That brawl is largely due to his dumbass habit of running up the score. Also, anybody else notice he physically threatened the refs after the game? Should have suspended his redneck arse for this entire year.
The Academic Administrator is a saint.
Happy to see the back-up RB grow into a star and Ollie get an A and get a schollie.

Those asking about the starting QB. He had plenty of small school offers but wanted that big time and never got it. So he hung it up.

And Ollie...it's sad that this kid is even in a college of any kind....bless his heart.
It's JUCO. It's not like the kid got a free ride and admission to Stanford with his grades coming out.
I'd much rather see a guy like that go to a JUCO and then a 4-year with a shot at maybe staying off the streets given his background. Otherwise he probably gets caught up and he's one more thug living off welfare and in and out of jail.

And this is the crux of the matter... most of these kids don't realize what caliber a player they truly are, because they dont fully understand the market

Before he went to Scooba, he was committed to Jacksonville State then changed his mind to go JUCO.

He made a lot of plays as a receiver. I like.

This right here.

They repeated it several times in the series.....you have to run up the score to improve in the national rankings. Blame the system....not Emcc.
And you weren't watching close enough...he was threatening the opposing coach that was also talking shite....not the refs. Not saying that puts him in the right, but he wasn't threatening the refs.

They were up 48-0 before half. They didn't need any more points to show dominance in that game. He was just being an a-hole.

I agree that Buddy was an a-hole, but that MS Delta team deserved it anyway.

Why would you leave any doubt when you're trying to fight to get back into top 2?
Of all fan bases to criticize someone for running up the score....the one that employed spurrier should be the last to do so.

There seem to be a lot of JCs in Mississippi that field football programs. Kansas seems to have a few as well. Wonder why they seem to be concentrated in a few states. I don't really know of any in GA?
Posted on 8/1/16 at 8:05 am to DuncanIdaho
All the JUCOs in MS field football except for Meridian IIRC
Posted on 8/1/16 at 8:11 am to SwayzeBalla
Interesting. Do they all play each other in the same league? Maybe the concentration has to do with travel?
