Miller reportedly wants more than $70 million in the first three years of his contract. The two sides have until July 15 to hammer out a multiyear deal.

Without an agreement, Miller would be left to play the 2016 season under a $14.129 million franchise tag. As an exclusive rights free agent, he is not eligible to receive offers or negotiate with other teams.

About to be the highest paid player in the NFL. It is just a matter of how much more.

I would just tell Elway put on the SB tape. That $$ is going to be outrageously awesome.

Denver is cheap. That isn't Von's fault.

The franchise tag in year two increases by 20% IIRC

Yep, 120%. Franchise tags are for one year at a time, but if a player is tagged two years in a row, they get 120% of the franchise amount. If they are tagged a 3rd year, they get 144% the franchise amount. Those escalators are definitely incentive to make a deal or part ways. I don't recall a player getting tagged two years in a row, but I can't definitively say it hasn't happened.

I know the players hate getting tagged, but the average of the top 5 salaries is pretty good. They just lose out on up front guaranteed money a multi-year deal would bring. They might still get it the following year, but dollars now is better than dollars later, especially given the risk of injury

How the hell do you expect anybody to actually read your post when you're doing this?

Not that I'm suggesting you change it, mind you.

In answer to your question, I'm going with "yes", though probably not as much as he wants.

He deserves $20 million/year, minimum. He'll get it, but not at Denver.
