Excerpts from article:

“Tate ran a good campaign with them and found a love affair really quick,” Al Martell said. “Everybody was really comfortable with it. I was comfortable with it up until shortly after the Mazzone arrival.

The top-rated dual-threat quarterback in this class, Martell continues to have a solid relationship with A&M coach Kevin Sumlin.

The Martell family had other concerns, too. Texas A&M had offered other quarterbacks including four-star Jack Sears from San Clemente, Calif., and then-Oregon pledge Ryan Kelley out of Chandler (Ariz.) Basha – a sign to Al Martell that maybe his son was not a top priority to Mazzone.

Both quarterbacks are well over 6 foot, while Martell is 5-foot-11. Al Martell saw that as another possible reason why Mazzone was not exactly welcoming during their trips to campus.

The rest of the article is about how things went South after Moorehead tweet.

It really sounds like Mazzone was trying to push Martell away, , between offering the other QBs and the quotes from this article. Really hope that isn't how Mazzone operates, he seemed like an old school straight forward kind of guy.

That definitely seems to be what he was trying to do. Agree that there are better ways to handle things.

He seems to have been trying to walk the tightrope that we see in place frequently these days where one guy is the key to several other commitments. That one guy was Martell, and even though Mazzone didn't really want him, he needed to string him along as long as possible to keep the interest from the other guys in his recruitment "posse" up, so he didn't just straight up tell him, "We don't want you because I want gunslingers over 6' and you are a little scrambler".

I don't know how to feel. Times like this I almost miss Texags telling me what my emotions should be.

I'd rather this than us hang everything on Tate and him decommit at the last minute.

The only misstep is Morrheads tweet

Hamm says the bit about him having a good relationship with Sumlin contradicts what Martell himself told Hamm last week.

Numbers seems to go pretty hard core negative on Sumlin. How objective and reliable is Hamm? What bathroom did he corner Martell in?

Look at how many downvotes LSU fans have given the thread about Tate's dads comments

1) I think Tate was going to decommit eventually anyway. I've always been leery of him being a fame-seeking Kyler type. I'd rather it happen now. The associated decommits from his posse are to be expected. Again, rather they happen now so we can move on to other targets than later, when we are up a creek.

2) I am not a fan of living and dying by the fragile little scrambler. Even Johnny eventually got hurt and it sunk us. I'd prefer a big tall NFL type who will almost exclusively just pass, and that's more in line with what Mazzone wants/needs for his system anyway.

So really the only thing the staff did wrong was Morehead's tweeting.

Lol, thank you. This board is so silly sometimes. One day it's "Liucci and Hamm are so terrible!!!" Then the next their word is gospel again.

I didn't say it was gospel, I just posted what he said. He could be lying.

I honestly just throw out anything negative they say about the staff. They have an agenda. At least Liucci has talked openly about his feud with the staff. They feel as though they should benefit more financially from A&M rise in the SEC. They are pissed about the staffs obligations to the SEC Network and Aggiefblife.

My biggest complaints about Sumlin have been his loyalty to his coaching staff and failing to recruit over current committed players. I honestly don't think he had changed. Mazzone seems willing to get the players he feels his offense needs to win, regardless of Sumlin's promises to a commit and Aaron Moorehead's belief in loyalty. This will be an interesting dynamic to watchin the future.
