Just like with other mental illness issues, we should be treating this for what it is.
I think that the type like Caitlyn Jenner is definitely mentally ill. However, the other type have brains that are physically different than they should be for their gender.
There are distinct physical differences between male and female brains. We tend to think of most brain illnesses as being nebulous mental issues. Often, however, they're centered on actual physical differences in how the brain is built.

Where does it stop? As V&S mentions, and I know in a joking manner, are we going to let anyone identify themselves as anything and somehow society has to accept it and we don't address the actual issue. It then causes it to magnify, and you have people making claims because it gets them attention.
The problem as I see it is that we only experience the flamboyant representatives of a minority. We don't really see the ones who are suffering inwardly and wish they weren't different.
There's no reason that we should ever stop trying to make life easier for all members of our society. I think it's incumbent upon all of us to think before we judge.
Why would someone choose to be different, to be persecuted, to be ostracized or even to be beaten and possibly killed? Did we choose to be the way we are? Maybe they didn't either.

I don't understand this movement. Why do corporations pander to this bullshite? Is there polls on people's thoughts on this issue? Cause I find it hard to believe that a majority of people are ok with this

See, that doesn't matter now. There are devout internet mobs that can explode any issue into a national news event within an hour. Since they have mass exposure through social media, a mountain can be made out any mole hill. Even if the vast majority of Americans don't agree, this very visual minority can inflict their will on everyone else.

So you make life more comfortable for one by making it more uncomfortable for thousands?

then I should be allowed to escort my 12 yr old daughter into the bathroom to make sure her rights are not being infringed upon.

The funny part about all this bathroom bull shite, it has exploded the population of 12 year old girls in our country. Everybody's got a 12 year old daughter all of a sudden.

Comfortable is your word, not mine. Also, you took one sentence of mine and created a different context for it.
That you excluded the second sentence of the paragraph from which you took the first one speaks to your intent. I said, "...it's incumbent upon all of us to think before we judge."

I have no issue with trying to be inclusive where inclusive makes sense. But allowing people to say "today I'll be a guy or a girl" falls outside those boundaries.
They are either attention seekers like Bruce Jenner, or have some true mental issues that need to be addressed in an appropriate way.
And adults allowing children to make these determinations seems criminal to me.

We should decriminalize breaking and entering.
Sigh.
In the bathroom example, its the rape/perving whatever that's the crime. What's the penalty for going in the wrong bathroom? Not enough to deter someone who is willing to risk the much bigger penalties for the crime they want to commit.
It's a bad analogy.

My 12 year old daughter was actually planned 12 and a half years ago and not so suddenly. I follow my 10 yr old son into public bathrooms. It's interesting how dad's get protective of their children isn't it? I never felt I had to worry about perv men getting access to the same bathroom as my daughter by law until now. I would still escort her to the bathroom if my wife wasn't present. Didn't have any need to bring her up before this. Sorry i left you out in the past.

Why don't we just protest this shite by all the men going in the womens restroom? Everyone go in there and take a big hot steaming shite in the toilet, then leave the seat up and don't flush. I would think after a month or so of this, they would would make the women's room, for "vaginas at birth only".
Also how many of yall think this started by a dyke looking woman? Like she went into the womans room to take a squat, but all the other ladies thought she was a man and denied her. Too embarrassed to tell them that she IS a woman who dresses as a man, she decides it is best to take a squat in the mens room instead.

What you may say is right about whomever is trans.
What you say is also right about a perv/rapist. And these initiatives make it easier for them and that's not right at all.

I am thinking this is a bad idea. Some perv is going to go in there, and then some little girl's dad is going to end up in jail for the rest of his life after he goes Punisher on him. Stupid.
Here is my stance on this though, it would be hypocritical of me to argue against their right to make their choice on this. I am an advocator of a business's right to choose on these types of matters. I think a business should be able to turn away any business they want and let free market decide whether they shop there.

A men's bathroom has everything a women's bathroom has and more. That's where this is all stupid. You go in a stall to use it if you're mentally fricked up.
Until I see a woman bent over in the men's room, fogging piss out onto a urinal I'm calling all this PC bullshite..

I think the primary issue most people have is what "Gender Identity" means. Everyone uses examples of people getting reassignment or hormones and such. I think if you could limit it to people "clinically" diagnosed to see themselves as the opposite gender it would be less creepy.
In reality, it seems that anybody can just say "I feel like a woman" as they walk in the bathroom door and there is nothing anybody can do about it. If I watch my 8 year old daughter walk into a bathroom or locker room and then a grown man walks in behind her, do I have a right to be concerned even if he is confronted and says "I feel like a woman inside." Cool dude, I'll take your word for it.

Here's where I have issue with the NC law and where some concerned Dad's may get into legal trouble.
In your scenario above, you witness a "grown man" follow your daughter into the ladies room. You follow ( as most of us would), approach this "dude", and possibly have a physical altercation.
As it turns out, the "dude" was gender assigned at birth as a female, but now identifies as a male (and quite convincingly). She, in full accordance with NC law, was in the appropriate bathroom. You, on the other hand are not and you've possibly committed assault on a "lady" in a ladies room.
Your bathroom area may soon be violated in county lockup.
It's a dumb law.

GID doesn't work like that. Again, those who are afflicted with this brain/body disorder are not transvestites.
They don't act like the opposite sex for kicks. Their brains are of the opposite sex and the person's body is in conflict with how he or she thinks and behaves.

I agree that people like Jenner are attention whores, true transvestites. He does not have GID. His is a mental issue.

The child doesn't make the determination, their biology does. A boy who has been born with a female brain will act like a girl and vice versa.
It's a relatively rare phenomenon and just another example of what can go wrong in the development of a fetus in the womb. It's a birth defect as real as any other.
