Didn’t we end up there after the tourney last year? Or was that not AP?

#5 in the AP Poll!
after losing Harper, Brown, and Okeke I would’ve said no shot we reach top 5 this year. Maybe 2021 but not 2020. That’s incredible

It's incredible that this team is winning so differently. Speaks volumes to Bruce's ability as a coach to adapt to his players.

We finished 5th in the Coaches Poll. AP doesn’t release a ranking at the end of the tourney

We can be up 30 with :45 to play and he is still screaming knowledge at the top of his lungs. He is also walking up and down the bench coaching them too. Dude is outstanding at his job.

Once Bruce coached them to play defense, everything changed. You can do so much off of great defense.

Talent has everything to do with winning in basketball. Once Bruce started recruiting players that could hang on the court with the nations best, we started winning.

Lets not forget when Bruce first started here he had a center playing point guard. Cant remember his name

You're probably thinking of Cinmeon, and he seriously wanted that shot before he finally got it. Dude wanted to be a point forward so bad.

No, it really doesn't.

Of last year's top 6 players in minutes played, only 2 players were 4* in the top 100. Everyone else were 3*

Here are the rankings

PG Harper 4* #90
SG Brown 3*
SF Doughty 3*
PF Okeke 4* #47
C McLemore 3*

G/F Dunbar 3*

Of course there is a talent threshold but it is not even close to 'everything.'

If it was, schools like Virginia, Wisconsin, Wichita and Xavier wouldn't be regular top 25 type teams

Haper and Brown have shooting skills that are hard to replicate. Okeke as well.

Just because a scout doesnt give them those pretty stars out of high school doesnt mean theyre not talented.

Yeah Bruce has shown himself to be a very good talent scout. He finds very very good college players regardless of rating

Unfortunately it's quite a bit harder on him & all coaches now with the new evaluation rules the NCAA put into affect not long ago.

Yeah but at the same time the expanded broadcasting of high school/AAU games allows for at least remote evaluation. Not the same as being there but it at least helps make up the difference.

All of the coaches, who have been around a while, have these AAU coaches contacting them about players regularly. The coaches also have "scouts" who will go check out said player to see if he is somebody that the staff may be interested in. That is the only way for coaches to keep up with the talent out there.

Just relaying what Bruce has said about the new NCAA eval rules.

So while our SOS is solid, we currently have 0 quadrant 1 games/wins. We are the only team in top 65 of NET with no Q1 matchups

This will be a challenge for elite seeding as we currently have only one T25 net opponent and likely only have 6-7 total Q1 games by end of the season.
