Muschamp should create a coaching position termed "life coach" and be done with it.

Easily winnable lawsuit.
Lattimore can't be employed on Muschamp's staff AND continue to conduct camps and interact with recruits/prospects through his Foundation. It would be a recruiting violation because he would exceed the NCAA contact limitations with recruits.

but I have a hard time buying that one
In terms of buying it as a valid argument for the NCAA. I have no doubt it's their "reason", I just think it's bullshite and as others have said largely a semantic argument.

No doubt this is the punishment they decided to dish out related to their findings up in Chapel Hill

Vincent left that post for a TAF position

If he's on staff, participating in his camps would fly right in the face of the recently enacted satellite camp ban.
It isn't just a semantics argument. Bring him in once a month or so to address the team and they're fine but if they try to put in an official position anywhere in the athletic department, they're going to get slammed.
It is pretty simple. He can either be on staff or do his camps. He's choosing the camps and I applaud him for it.

Muschamp wants him on staff but not as a coach. Right? And if you aren't a coach, then you can't recruit. So what unfair advantage does the NCAA think SCar is getting?
I think you just answered your question there. He's working with camps and such with uncommitted recruits already, so if he's not a coach but still on the staff, he's in position to "recruit" by working the circuit while being a USC employee. Not sure how much of an advantage that would give a program like USC (LSU, Bama, etc, I can see it more clearly) but that does sound like the logic being used here. So they either hire him as a coach and let him recruit or let him be an unofficial Super-PAC type of guy who is technically not coordinating with the staff but no rational person believes that's actually the case.
I don't know why Boom can't just find a position group being covered by a coordinator and make Lattimore the position coach. Minimal work, and he gets paid.

Because then Lattimore can't do the camps.
That's the part everyone is missing. He can be a coach, analyst, anything they want to call him but if he becomes one the he can't do the camps.
Those camps are an integral part of his ministry and he understandably doesn't want to give them up, so he can't be on the staff.

I'd think Lattimore could make more money with the camps, speaking engagements, etc...and wouldn't have to work as many hours as he would as a position coach on staff.

I get that. But his objection to being a coach seems to be that it's too much work. Since he apparently wants to join the staff, if his stated problem is that he doesn't know if he wants to work that hard, one assumes that he had an actual internal debate and came up with that as the primary con.

Dunno if anyone has said it yet but it's basically the calipari rule, although I dunno if it applies with here.
He would hire a bunch of people connected to recruits and give them 80k jobs in the bball dept at Memphis.

The prohibition makes sense. Do you want Alabama hiring the head of a series of camps as "special recruiting coordinator?" He'd have a direct association w the school, be paid by the school, and have the same limitations of other coaches except he'd have unlimited evaluation and contact with players at the camps. That's a nice advantage for that school and a loophole every team would drive a truck through.
A series of Ozzie Newsome "Built By Bama" camps has a nice ring to it. Not gonna happen

I'd be very surprised if he didn't face a tremendous internal struggle. The chance to be a coach at his school has to be an incredibly tempting offer.
