Recruiting: When you don't have to buy players

This is a telling comment from a 4* home grown football recruit.
"Askew, a four-star athlete from McAdory High School (McCalla, Ala.), acknowledged that Alabama is recruiting him differently than every other school coming after him. He did say that the Crimson Tide’s recruiting methods are not necessarily hurting the team’s chances at landing him.
“It’s business. They’re not really one of those schools that’s going to check in with you or anything like that,” Askew, who holds 39 scholarship offers, said. “If you don’t want to be a part of what they’re doing, then it’s not going to happen. They’ll just go to the next guy. They’re more of a business type of school than any other school recruiting me.”

So Bama is playing hard to get with a recruit rather than the other way around?

unless you are a recruit they feel the need to do this.

"Malcolm Askew knows three schools that will definitely be in his final five — Auburn, Ole Miss and Clemson."

what this means is alabama simply has another player at his position that is higher on the board than he is...and they are buying THAT player instead of him.

Of course they'll just move on they're like hundreds of these.

If you had stopped here, you wouldn't have sounded like a bitter dumbass

You hear that a lot about Bama.
A quote from a Bama recruit after visiting Bama and LSU:
“Alabama is more about business. LSU gets crunk with it,” Shenault laughed.

no it means that bama has come up with this method to recruit this particular kid

Every school has a different spiel. Some talk about family, some have location, some use success in the NFL, fan support, whatever.
That comment is neither telling nor surprising in any way.
Of course it's a Bama related post so someone somewhere is printing a shirt of the quote or at least forwarding it on an email.

This kid has been so whiny since last year as he has been slow played. Thinks he is better than he is. A 4* athlete is s dime a dozen. Hope everything works out for him anywhere else besides Bama.

"They’re more of a business type of school than any other school recruiting me.”
It's pretty much like that from recruiting right up until the the moment you transfer.

it's actually how Bama recruits most kids.
"We want you, but we will win with you or without you"
quote:
"Playing for coach (Nick) Saban was a good experience for me," Julio Jones said. "I loved it when I went there because he told me that we'll win with you or without you. That was one of the reasons I wanted to go there. I didn't want anybody giving me anything."

They have different methods for different recruits. They also recruit by telling kids they really want them as well and checking in with them quite a bit.
Again, this is the method they felt the best with, with this particular kid

I recruit among the same age group and sometimes making them reach out to me is a way of conveying the inherant value you or your program has to offer. Strangely money is not the strongest motivator for post-Millenials(Eighth graders). So our game is changing.

Florida runs a tight ship recruiting...when you have our name...they come to you.
Our WR coach a while back was rumored to have broken a few rules recruiting and he gone. It hurt us because we didnt have a real WR position coach...but rather have some issues on the field than off.
