Starting as early as tomorrow.
Itll be interesting to see the effects of this considering all surrounding areas still have the federal minimum wage of $7.25 an hour.

I'm not for the guys at McDonald's making 15 an hour, but the current $7.25 min. wage is trash. Roughly 10 an hour is very fair, IMO.

There have been a few public hearings on it. It's been talked about for a few months now.
There's a bill in the Alabama Congress that would bar cities and municipalities from passing minimum wage above the state minimum wage.

Alabama is one of 5 states, all in the south, that have not set their own state minimum wage.

I am curious what they consider Birmingham or Jefferson County for this? Would Hoover fall under this minimum wage hike?
A loophole on this would be to relocate offices to outside the city and pay all your employees from that address. I'm not sure how franchises work but I would assume you get a check from the owner of the franchise as opposed to from the store itself. If you technically work for an owner outside the city, would you fall under the wage there or in the city?

The Kansas City, Missouri city council voted last summer to increase the minimum wage to $15 an hour. Thank God the Missouri Legislature stepped in and vetoed that shite since under Missouri law only the state government can establish a minimum wage. Otherwise, businesses would've been flowing over the state-line to kansas which has already been an issue.

Probably because you can survive on $7.25 an hour with a roommate in most of Alabama or the Deep South.

Just Birmingham city, not Jefferson County and not Hoover.

It's based on the physical location of where the majority of the work is performed. So even if the franchisee is in Hoover or Shelby County, if the actual work location is in Birmingham city it would apply to them.

No way. My wife is a child psychiatrist working very closely with social workers. Some with multiple degrees and masters. We are very good friends with a few of them. They make anywhere from 13-17 an hour. You really want to pay some hood rat, white trash POS that likely didn't even finish high school, $10 an hour to frick your order up? You can't be serious.

They will qualify for ample benefits, regardless of any enacted wage floor.
Newsflash: if you're only skilled enough to earn minimum wage, you probably shouldn't put yourself in a position to have a child.
