#40 on rivals. 12th in the SEC in 2012

10-3 (6-2)
Now a lot of that is thanks to the #8 class the next year, and two top 20 classes behind that. But you've gotta give props to those lowly touted seniors and the coaching staff for competing well in the SEC.

Freeze has done a great job there. He's set Ole Miss up to compete at a level in the conference that they have not consistently competed at since the Vaught era.

The reasons I think we are recruiting well are:
1. Freeze is just a really good recruiter. Orgeron himself said he was the best recruiter they had. When he first became our coach I was not excited but went to see him speak a month later and fell in love with the guy. Just an extremely likable guy.
2. Bama, LSU, etc. Yeah, blame yourselves. You turned the SEC into the premiere brand within college football and we get to ride those coattails. You also laid the blueprint out for how to recruit at a high level.
3. Starting to act like a big boy football program. It is so different now than when I was there. The atmosphere is like being at big time college football.
4. Winning. Freeze has showed that he can back it up. If he won 6 games a season we would not be recruiting the way we are right now.
5. Television. Everyone is on television every game now. Family can see you play. NFL scouts can see you play. This one is huge and will continue to change the face of college football.
6. I have flooded the recruiting circuit with cash, hooker, and blow. There, beat you to it.

They are about to finish with a 5 star linebacker out of California, a 4 star safety out of Texas, pulled a 4 star receiver out of Florida yesterday and a 4 star OL from Illinois.
It is not an exaggeration to state that the Ole Miss recruiting footprint is as large as any school in the nation.
Apparently, they have a real legit shot at finishing #1 overall this year in recruiting.

I don't think it is money.
I think one of the nation's top recruits out of California likes Ole Miss because of the "inclusive attitude" (They got rid of their racist mascot).
I think a lot of these guys fall in love with the campus at Ole Miss just like Tunsil did on his official visit...

The most consistent thing I have seen about what recruits say about the OM staff and team is that it feels "like family. feels like home." that is the atmosphere Freeze tries to create. I know no other fan bases watch "The Season" but it is Ole Miss's weekly TV show during football season. There was one episode where Freeze talked about how the coaching staff is allowed to have their wife and kids on field during practice, and in fact it is encouraged. The players get to interact with them. I think it is pretty cool

Actually, I watch it here and there. I think it's great. I wish Alabama's video folks would go to Oxford and learn a thing or two.

IMO, Freeze and his staff created a very different environment in their football program. Although they like to win, but they stressed that the program is like a family. As posted numerous times on facebook, Freeze pre-game speech to his players was to win for the love of the team... not because of the hatred for the opponent.
That culture and philosophy of caring more for the individual than the wins and losses attract players.
According to reports, Patterson committed to Ole Miss not because Ole Miss won a game that he attended, but a after a devastating loss. It was the Auburn game, #3 Ole Miss loss after Treadwell horrifically broke his leg. Patterson said that he expected that all the coaches and fans would be disappointed or outraged about the loss, but what he all he saw from the coaching staff was concern about Treadwell. Believe it or not, Patterson claimed that was one of his main reasons he committed to Ole Miss. (I know that his brother is on the staff.)

Ole Miss has always been a beautiful campus and Oxford is a nice safe place to live, which is relevant because parents love that. The problem in the past is that the program was a veritable shitshow from the AD perspective, the team didn't win enough, and other negative stereotypes were the accepted narrative. You couldn't get the major recruits to even visit campus. When Ole Miss was lucky enough to get a bigger recruit to actually visit, you would always here the same quotes "I only heard bad things before the visit", or "I was shocked how nice it was", etc. Perception has held down the program.
Over the last 10 years or so, Ole Miss has boosted its facilities to compete with the league (nice IPF, student athlete center, training table, etc). The Ole Miss brand is stronger than ever and nationally relevant for the first time since the 70s. They have a dynamic HC and AD that know how to market the program to its strengths. Freeze doesn't subscribe to the former groupthink that you can't recruit national players to a remote school located in MS, and he certainly DGAF about going big in recruiting. Obviously his coaching staff and support staff have can promote a high-powered, fun and creative offense paired with an aggressive defense, which recruits want to play in.
TL:DR - here's the only answer the SECr wants:
