If Auburn and Alabama both moved to the East, wouldn't that effectively end the need for permanent cross division rivals.
This will need to happen eventually.
West:
Tamu, Mizz, MSU, Ole Miss, Arky, LSU, UK
East:
Bama, Auburn, Vandy, Tenn, Georgia, Florida, SCAR
Makes the most sense from a rivalry standpoint. Aubbie, Bulldogs, Tide and Vols all play every year with no need for permanent cross division rivals. Not too bad from a geography standpoint either.

I really would support this.
Agreed. As long as we get to play Auburn and Tennessee every year, the rest of 'em can rot in hel--
I mean um...
They'll figure out what to do on their own. LSU, Oklahoma, Arkansas and aggy can play every year. They'll work it out.

I don't disagree, but before NU was dropped EVERY B1G school was an AAU member, and so are new members Rutgers and Maryland.
The point is, the majority of their conference isn't appreciably better than the majority of ours. They have an elite school, we have an elite school. They have some top-tier schools, we have some top-tier schools.
On down the line until you get to Ole Miss and State...

A re-alignment would be better for everyone. Bama and Aubren screw up the scheduling as it is now. We can solve all of that with a simple move.

Right now, it feels like teams like Fl and SC are not even in the SEC because we play them so rarely.
I do not think anyone would be too upset moving Bama and Auburn to the East, all old rivalries pretty much preserved --- I doubt LSU and the others would complain about not having to play Alabama every year.

Syracuse is no longer an AAU school. They withdrew last year under threat of ejection because their federal research dollars dropped.

Exactly.
As far as the academics thing goes, here's what my proposed 16-team SEC would look like:
Source: US News, whom everyone fricking hates when it ranks their school as lower than they think it should be (or when it doesn't rank 'Bama as the worst college in the entire nation)
#8- Duke
#15- Vandy
#47- Florida
#61- Georgia
#70- Moon Moon
#96- Bama
#102- Auburn
#103- Mizzou
#103- Tennessee
#108- Oklahoma
#108- South Carolina
#129- LUS
#129- Arky
#129- Kentucky
#140- Ole Miss
#161- Miss. State

I only brought it up in the context of "Where exactly would OU go?" It was pretty clear when NU was accepted to the B1G that AAU membership was important to the damn yankees. Given NU's status I've no idea whether that's still true.

The problem is that, academically, they aren't really all that impressive to begin with.

Bearing in mind that I had to include private universities, Moon Moon is doing pretty well.
Hell, even dumb ol' toothless Bamer is making some strides here lately.

It would also bring back the Tenn vs. Auburn rivalry which got killed with expansion. Only problem is it would put 5 big six schools in one division.

Oklahoma also barely provides a viewership boost in comparison to a Virginia or North Carolina school
Does not matter. OU would be a HUGE content multiplier.

Yeah, but they'd have Oklahoma and Moon Moon, which would even things out a bit.

In all seriousness, it would probably give those non-big six schools a chance to make a leap forward. Tennessee already plays everyone in that proposed division except for Auburn so it really wouldn't effect us much. We could probably drop playing premier OOC for more mediocre OOC opponents with the addition and save on gas or something.

Syracuse removed itself from the AAU around the same time Nebraska got kicked out.

That might be one way to bring it back and it would keep money in the state. Right now, Memphis won't play us in basketball and we want both football and basketball games not just football. Our AD has told them both sports or no deal but Memphis doesn't want us to have more of a foothold with basketball recruits so they're holding out. I always liked the Memphis game in both sports and it's sad that we can't come to terms on playing again.

I can't disagree, but they're not that bad, either. The trouble with your evil plan for bringing OU to the SEC (or me sending them to the B1G) is #149 Oklahoma State is that bad. (And that ranking reinforces my belief that US News is clueless, with them above the rantards at Texas Tech and, sadly, MSU) And as long as T. Boone Pickens is alive, Oklahoma isn't going anywhere without Oklahoma State. Sez me, and I have inside info I got from my cousin's boyfriend's sister-in-law.
Disclaimer: Aggies would HATE OU coming to the SEC. Those bastards have been stealing Texas recruits for decades and that has only recently started making moves in the right direction. Bringing them to the SEC moves them back to their good old days. Adrian Peterson, Billy Sims, etc.
