Its just a game for him.

Rick Trickett

quote:

More than 35 players Trickett has coached have gone on to play in the NFL and more than 35 players have won all-conference honors, including four of his five linemen at West Virginia in 2005 and 2006 and all five Seminole starters in 2012 and 2013. At LSU in 2000, three of his players earned All-SEC honors.

Hard to believe he has been at fsu for 9 years.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think Smackover is perpetually negative.

he is. I think he does have some epic melts though. I have moved on from the "OH NOz! we lost our oline coach" to "frick that Jim chaney loving ****" if we had to keep jim to keep him than good fricking riddance. we might not get as good of a O line coach, but we will get a good one and we will have a better overall program because of it. Jim sucked. Enos doesnt.

the combo of enos/new oline coach
vs
jim fantasy chaney/Pittman

I want enos. ya enos/Pittman was great but that ship has sailed. I know I'd rather have enos than pittman. one makes a much bigger difference than the other.

I allowed myself to be bummed for a couple of minutes, but this is the way it is everywhere. Assistants leave all the time across the country, you can't expect them to stay. We're going to lose Enos and every other position coach we value, too.

It's just, ideally, he would have left for a promotion or a larger sum of money. We offered to beat what Georgia was offering. I don't know if it's been completely confirmed that he was leaving just to coach with Chaney, but that seems to be the only reason. Hey, I value my friends, but the Pittman is really good at his job, and Chaney is mediocre at absolute best when coaching at a level this high. He'll continue to underperform and be inconsistent, and he'll continue to move jobs as consequence.

I just really hope the drama involved in this has been overplayed. I hate it when there's bad blood during a departure.

Yes. It's a protective mechanism after years of disappointment and experience. I'd rather be pessimistic and pleasantly surprised than to get my hopes up. Hopes are what great melts are made of. Or at least the match that strikes the flame.

Honestly don't see the big deal.pittman its good at busy bnp but we've not yet come close to having a line as dominant as the ones during his rose bowl runs

I'm with you on that.

Expect the worst and hope for the best.

Better to be surprised and happy than let down.

The one thing I can't get over:

I remember back in September and October, before we went on the run...

There was a lot of "Frick this O-Line! I'm tired of hearing how big they are! They're slow! Out of position! Getting penalties that cost us Toledo! Can't run block for crap! They're soft is what they are!!!"

Even other teams were saying "Your O Line is over rated and soft..." after the games and we were agreeing.

Then we win a bunch and forget.

Maybe I'm the minority, but I think Pittman was good but I think that we could have improved there. And maybe Enos will have a say and get a name that fits in with the movement of his offense.

Agree

Agree.

I think it was conditioning or lack thereof, and them learning in real game action. We HAVE to address our early season woes.

Some early names being floated around...

Bob Bostad: Probably has the most merit at this point. He coached with Bert from 2006-2011 at Wisconsin. He served as OL coach and running game coordinator there under Bert. He coached 3 All Americans on the Oline and his running game had at least one 1,000 yard rusher each season.

Mark Staten: 5 years as OL coach at Michigan State. 4 consecutive seasons with a FR All American. Has coached a Remington finalist and All American center. State rushed for over 3k yards in 2014. Only allowed 11 sacks in 2014, the fewest in the Big Ten. Has coached with current Arkansas OC Dan Enos. Staten only makes $250,000 at Michigan State. Arkansas was paying Pittman $550k/year.

Jeff Stoutland: OL coach of Philadelphia Eagles. He was OL coach at Alabama from 2011-he took the Eagles job in 2013. Was also OL coach at Michigan State, Miami, Syracuse, and Cornell. Won national titles with Alabama in 2011 and 2012. Familiar with the type of offense that Bert likes to run. Philly is a pretty shaky spot right now. Would be a good fit and familiar territory for Stoutland.

Alex Atkins: Georgia Southern OL coach. In 2014 his offensive line paved the way for the top rushing offense in FBS. Went to GSU from Chattanooga. Again in 2015, Georgia Southern leads the FBS in rushing yards per game at 355 and only allowed 8 sacks all season in 2015.

bostad or staten would be homeruns. i'm preparing for someone under the radar, though, like the past few hires. not since pittman was hired as part of his initial staff has bielema really brought in a marquee name.

bert may want a marquee name for what he considers the most important position on the team

We weren't crisp clean or prepared for the season. removing half our practices by not doing two a days was stupid. It showed as the season went on and we got in rhythm we were fine. However it took us half a season because people were practicing twice as much as we were and therefore more prepared.
