Not true. You don't lose half of your practices by not having two a days. You only lose about 3-4.
NCAA mandates how many total practices you can have prior to the season anyway.

I misunderstood how they worked then. Still could have probably used those 3-4 practices. We looked like we were in practice mode for the first half of the season and then started playing hard as soon as our backs hit the wall.

Are you sure that didn't have anything with installing a new offense against live competition? Maybe everything looked perfect against the practice squad, but then when first team defenses showed up on the other side of the ball and gave different reads things got muddied for a little.
Then the coaches had film to pause in position meetings and say "See, this right here, when you see that you have to do 'X'..." And maybe that was the first time it clicked for the guys.
I don't know either. But I'm not going to say "If we had like 3 or 4 more practices in helmets and shorts we would have blown away Toledo because we wouldn't have had 3 touchdowns called back and wouldn't have had 100 penalty yards! And our defensive secondary would have been lights out! That's all they were lacking!"

I think this was the bigger issue. They didn't know until they got in to the actual games that what they were trying to do in the run game wasn't going to work and they had to go back to the drawing board.

Wickline would be a home run. He built some really nice lines at Okie light. Coached with Singleton, has a nice track record of recruiting Texas.
Not sure how long he'd want to be here as he's obviously shown a history of jumping to work with a big fish and being disingenuous in doing so.
St. Pete native, U of Florida grad, nice list of NFL'rs.
Bert may have bigger targets in mind. If we don't get a highly regarded OL coach, and pass on Wickline I'll continue to scratch my head.

hearing more about UGA's former line coach Rob Sale....
I'm good w/ that. He's beaten us out on a couple OL recruits and was a pretty good recruiter and it's not like UGA's lines have been terrible.
