What Smart has to do to be successful @ Georgia

We all know he is going to have Georgia's defense performing at an elite level, but what about the offense? The mistake Muschamp made at Florida was not establishing a singular offensive philosophy and building on it. Changing OCs isn't the problem, but changing philosophies is. Even more so, you have to have a single identity on how you are going to play as a team. You can tweak it here and there, but a consistent identity is the foundation of success. All Smart has to do is find that solidify his philosophy and stick with it. If he can lock down 60% of the top 10 players in Georgia every year he will have a title in the first 5 years.

Hire Bobby Williams. The key to championships is Bobby.

It may work, it may not work. UGA it's gambling here no other way to say it.
Saban's coaching tree produced JF, and UF’s current coach (who's jury is still out but seems on the way); it also produced total flops like Dooley and WM. Saban is the best in the business, it's not that these guys don't have some merit, but he is the main cog. He's won championships with pretty much completely different staffs at different times.
Ritch had no prior HC experience either so UGA has gone this route before...still again no way to hide the fact this is a gamble.
When you promote a coordinator it can be: Very successful like Fisher, solid like Mark Ritch or it can be a colossal failure like Charlie Weiss.

At first I thought your OP was crazy, but now that you explain it this way, I see your point.

From that perspective, every single aspect of a coaching change is unknown. However, you couldn't possibly be set up any better for success on the defensive side of the ball.
If Pruitt is retained, the defense keeps on rolling. If Muschamp comes to town, I think the defense keeps rolling. It's when you get to option 3 and beyond that I think Smart's inexperience might be a bigger factor on defense.

Why would muschump make a lateral DC move at this point?

Exactly.

Maybe he likes Smart more than Malzahn. Maybe he sees the writing on the wall at Auburn. I don't know. But it isn't completely unbelievable, given all the rumors that have gone around recently.

Because AU is a slow motion trainwreck....but would look terrible on him to leave AU and Gus in the lurch after just one year....they gave him the opportunity after all.

Jumping ship this quick would make him look really bad imo

Win a National Championship. That's the only way Georgia fans will think he is successful.

Jumping shite to his alma mater may be somewhat more excusable

But you couldn't blame him as its the right move.

What other options would you've chosen that wouldn't be a "gamble"? Hell, Saban was a gamble when Bama hired him. How did they know he wouldn't up and leave them like he did LSU and Miami? There's not guarantees when you make a new hire. None.

It will be a shite show with Kirby. ga will be in decline.

That is a totally different type of risk. IMHO Kirby Smart is going to worse than Rictbut slightly better than Goff. If he brings that bagman Muschamp he is out of Athens quicker.
