MN Superintendent to now review all suspensions "of color"

Beginning Monday, every proposed suspension of black, Hispanic or American Indian students that does not involve violent behavior will first be reviewed by Johnson or someone on her leadership team.

The change comes amid intensifying scrutiny of the way Minneapolis public schools treat minority students and in the wake of new data showing black students are 10 times more likely to be sent home than white students.
Superintendent Bernadeia Johnson said she wants to “disrupt that in any way that I can.”
“The only way I can think of doing that is to take those suspensions back to the individuals and try and probe and ask questions,” Johnson said Friday.
I don't have a problem with a district wanting to address consistency in suspensions across the board. We shouldn't have students who are suspended for one offense while another who isn't suspended for the same exact offense.
That said, this is absolute bullshite. I feel for the teachers and school based administrators in Minnesota (especially larger cities like Minneapolis) who are having even more power taken away from them when it comes to controlling behavior in their classroom. Is it any coincidence that school suspension rates by race have a strong correlation with incarceration by race? No. And giving someone a slap on the wrist because people of their race have been suspended "too much" is absolutely ridiculous and counterproductive.

These protests coming to a city hall near you...
Stupidity will not stop in the schools.

This whole "everything that happens can be labeled racism" has gotten stupidly out of control. Inmates running the asylum.

Are you saying all inmates are black?!
Jk, I agree with you.

Why not just review all of them? Plus they are gonna fall way behind on them or realize they were getting suspended for a reason.

I smell reverse racism

Because they don't give a shite about white students who may have an achievement gap and may be over-suspended.
What'll happen is you'll see a bureaucratic clusterfrick. You suspend a kid but they can't be held out of school until they "see" the Superintendent.
Hopefully white families in the district who have a student who gets suspend will demand to know whether these students getting reviewed are being treated the same. And if they're not, I hope they pursue it legally.

Define "reverse racism."
If it's when people are racist towards white people, that's just racism.
If it's when people are racist towards white people, that's just racism.

No you can't be racist against white people, so it must be reverse racism, duh

Do they not have a designed set of standards? Ok, you did this so you'll be suspended for this amount of time?
shite is getting out of hand.

If it's anything like here, they've probably removed their zero tolerance policies and everything takes into consideration the "welfare of the student".

That sucks. We have ours set up where certain offenses get a set amount of time. Some are automatic OSS. That seems to work well for us. We also have it set up for early release from ISS if they are on hoot behavior.

"of color" seems to be nothing but a crutch used to blame others.
This is reaching a breaking point in this nation.

I always thought white was a color too? I've never understood why dark skinned people are called "colored". It's offensive that they deem us white folk as not having any color

Are you joking right now?

If we keep hitting ourselves in the head with a hammer because it feels so good when we stop, when are we going to drop the hammer on this fricking racial shite?

that does not involve violent behavior
So it will not affect much.

Easy answer to this is to always list your child as being a person of color on all school applications. What are they going to do a blood test to prove your legit? Families need to start doing this
