We need to fricking jump on it. I personally think the dude is the closest thing to a grand slam hire as you can get without going the Saban/Meyer/Harbaugh route. I think he IS the next coach to jump from a non-P5 school to have major success, but I could be wrong. It would suck to see him at USC.

I actually don't think he'd go there. He can hold out for a bigger job and be loyal to the people who gave him a shot.

To hear the folks on the SCSB here, they want Fuente.

Let's be honest. They'd take either and be mighty happy.
I think USC is a good job but I don't know if its good enough to lure Fuente or Herman.

Carolina won't be scared to shell out a lot of $ for the right coach. They have spent tons on facility upgrades and the fan support is there. If they get the right coach to create some buzz and excitement, they could become a force in NC recruiting while picking a few guys up in GA that the bigger powers don't have room for. Herman seems to be a great coach, motivator, and is a proven recruiter. I think he's the best available. Go get him before someone else does.

And there's coaching hires in a nut shell.

No, I agree. Every hire comes with a built-in risk, but there's also a lot of upside with a guy like Herman. Even Fuente and Smart have large upsides. In my opinion, Herman is the closest thing to a can't-miss hire as there has been in several years, at least when it comes to up-and-comers (Urbam to tOSU and Harbaugh to Mich don't apply).

You could get Kirby Smart, or you could get Dan Hawkins.
(At least with either you'd get a win over UGA..)

You can get Urban Meyer or you can get Derek Dooley, but if you never fire Mile Shula, then you never know.

I can't imagine Fuente going from Memphis to Columbia...if Memphis is the anus of the US then Columbia is a greasy dingleberry hanging from an arse hair....

I don't know. recruiting is tough, but there is a rabid fan base, and money to be spent. Also, expectations aren't as high there as they are at other schools willing to spend big bucks. Win the east, and you are royalty.

Gary Patterson for me please...

There are multiple big time openings right now and the near future..... any big time coaching prospect would be a fool to jump on the first offer, unless it's from UGA of course.....
