Any VW diesel owners on the board? What do you want VW to do for you? What do you want the U.S. government to do to VW?
VW could be facing an $18 billion fine just in the U.S. Because the corruption was company wide, and so egregious, will Volkswagen die a quick death?

They were literally founded by the Third Reich. I wouldn't bet against them surviving.

Government will bail them out.

I think their worst problem going forward is trust in their product. I wouldn't buy a VW now if it was a super deal. Who knows what might be wrong with it?
It seems to be a case of a company committing suicide. I don't see how they can survive something of this magnitude. Audi might survive but the VW brand is shite now.

They survived WW2. They can certainly make it out of this

If it's a hella deal I'd buy that shite. I don't care if the bastard's emissions are a little unhealthy. It's still way better than many vehicles on the road.

Yeah they'll survive, they build a quality car. They got caught doing what I'm willing to bet all car companies do, it'll cost them but they live on.

the thing is, the cars are more reliable with what they did and cheaper to maintain.
They will survive just like every other car brand that has had similar but more hazardous issues (exploding fuel tanks, ignition switches, airbags, fires, etc......)

I can't see the Fatherland letting them go under.

$18 billion fine just in the U.S.
Still less than 1 years profit.
They are #2 in the world behind Toyota and they own what 12 sub companies that include Porsche, Audi, Bentley (Rolls Royce), Bugatti, Ducati, etc, etc.
In addition the German government owns what 20% and the folks in the middle east own about another 20%
It may be a buying opportunity for their cars and their stock but not sure they would go under.

They've set aside almost $10 billion for the recall. I don't know if I'd want them to change a vehicle I purchased from them. Seems the performance wouldn't be what I bought.

I have one of the vehicles to be recalled - 2013 Jetta TDI.
I'd be happy with a 200k warranty and all scheduled maintenance until warranty expires, as I know their "fix" will overburden the car's emission system. Of course all of this is only if the EPA makes me get the software change.
If the EPA doesn't, a $5k check to make me whole for the bottomed out resale that's going to occur. I'd pocket the cash and continue about my business, driving the car until the wheels fall off like initially planned.

Since your Jetta emits 40 times the amount of pollution that the U.S. allows, it seems sure that you will be required to let VW make the fix.
I would ask VW to give me a regular gas version of my car and take back the polluter. It'll be interesting to see what happens in this case.

Are you blaming VW for global warming?

Volkswagen will be just fine, the publics attention span last about 7 days, remember the killer toyotas and gm fire cars?
My wife drives a TDI diesel and I would buy another one tomorrow, fantastic cars with phenomenal mileage. I would think it spews much less soot than my powerstroke
The real question is which car company is coming out with a small diesel next? Because they financed this expose.. newsflash they all cheat

You may want to fact check yourself on that one.

Right, I'm sure it's terrible when compared to a diesel truck. This whole 40x the allowable limit thing is probably a crock of shite compared to other vehicles.

I am betting the naked shorts on Wall Street did this as payback for 2008. VW held their feet to the fire when the share price shot up to 1,000 per share and for a few short moments made it the most valuable company on earth.
One of the few times the turds on Wall Street got raped instead of the normal routine of raping the rest of us.

I would still buy a VW since the Chinese don't have any environment standards and keep their production costs down that way.
