How much did Chizik really meddle in 2011?

I think it's pretty obvious now that Gus was just as much at fault as Chizik in 2011 for the poor offense. When we don't have a QB that can run, the offense is paralyzed.

In 2011, we had not even utilized the Read option so I dont now exactly how you drew that conclusion
Nick Marshall brought the read option.

Gus needs a running QB in his system and that's pretty obvious.

I'd like to see one that can just throw for now. I'm sure a pocket passer would win a lot of games.

Yep, that Chris Todd, he had some major wheels.
If you can't recognize the difference in what our offense looked like the first couple games of the 2011 season versus what it looked like after Chizik jumped in after the Clemson game then you are blind and nobody can help you.
The fact that we have a crap offense when we have JJ at QB doesn't mean we have to have a running QB to be successful, it just means we actually have to have a QB that can do something to be successful. JJ can't run or throw, no offense is going to be a success with the way he's playing.

No, the problem is that if the QB isn't running, he damn better be good at passing. Any offense will be paralyzed if the QB can't be consistent and turns the ball over.

We need a qb who is simply not a pussy.

Only to people who don't know better or know his history. ANY offense struggles without a competent QB.

Jj threw the ball backwards.

Just like every offense, ours needs a QB who is good at throwing or running, and not bad at both.

Is there not a gif of that out there yet? That's the play of 2015 so far.

On the other side of the LOS, through those same 3 games our opponents were averaging >90 snaps per game, and were allowing 534 yards per game, which IIRC put us around #110 or so in that category at the time.
Maybe Chiz started meddling after that, resulting in our defensive numbers improving at the expense of Gustav's offense, or maybe he didn't. But something changed dramatically. Here's hoping it can swing in the opposite direction just as suddenly this season.

A lot, a whole lot. Primarily over the QB. I think Chiz wanted CryBaby Cam to play.
Barrett Trotter started the first 7 games, we were ranked 19th (Losses to Clemson and a very good Arkie). Game 7, Clint Moseley plays the second half (we beat UF 16-7). (Barrett had struggled)
Announced as the starter by Chiz. This article tells all to me... LINK
Moseley watched as Trotter started and Frazier played in the Wildcat role. When Mosley didn't get in the game in an easy win over Florida Atlantic on Sept. 24, he went the next day to Chizik's office for a heart-to-heart.
Chizik said they talked for about 90 minutes about football and "just about how to deal with different things in your life."
"When he left my office that day, I felt like he was a little bit more comfortable with where he was at and a little more comfortable in his own skin," the coach said.
"I think it was a productive meeting. I've seen him over the last couple of weeks improve and just kind of altogether probably come to grips with other things: being the quarterback at Auburn or being the backup or starter or whatever it may be. Just the challenges that come with it."

Honestly, I think JJ's play has caught everyone by surprise, including Gus. He probably spent very little time working with White. Gus' play calling might be amazing, but JJ is just terrible. His comment about getting Smith a package might be a sign they are playing catchup on getting an effective backup. If White is not ready, there's no reason to kill is mental state, too. IF we get some QB play, and healthy on D, we might surprise some folks later in the year.

Tulsa Offense National stats
2007 #2 passing offense - #32 rushing offense
2008 # 6 passing offense- #2 rushing offense
both qbs in those years had less that 200 yards rushing. Gus doesn't need a running qb. issues are deeper or at least different.

He also ran a HUNH. Gus seems to buy into his own ability too much. His passing route tree/QB development clearly is not elite.
I trust Gus can develop a QB to be great in his system, I don't trust that he can morph his system/development to make a QB an elite QB.

By the time of the UF game Trotter's 'David Carr Syndrome' was in full effect. He had AJ Greene at LT who was so bad that he ruined Trotter in half a season. Trotter was looking at the rush.
Ill never forget there was one play in the South Carolina game where at the snap Greene, The OG and The C all triple teamed the DT and the DE Melvin Ingram, a 1st round draft pick, run right to Trotter's blindside.
