From Wikipedia:
Apparently Sterling Price was a slaveowning former governor of Missouri:

One particularly famous Home Guard militia was that of Columbia, Missouri. In 1864, it was rumored that Confederate General Sterling Price was planning on turning his march through Missouri towards the staunchly pro-Union town. Columbia had value not only as a stronghold of pro-Union thought, but served as home to a garrison of Union troops and prison located in the library and main academic building at the University of Missouri. Worried about Price's raid and concerned about the presence of bushwhackers in the surrounding areas of pro-Confederate Boone County, ninety men assembled a militia named the "Missouri Tigers". The brigade stockpiled weapons, kept watch, set up a warning bell for the town, and even dug a moat around the city courthouse. The University of Missouri's athletic programs are named in honor of the militia

Can we just have a Missouri Compromise and be done with it?

The Tigers where ready to defend against ANYONE...
including raiding jayhawkers from the west.
There were far more than a few "rebs" in and around the COMO area as well, which is why some of the fierciest fighting in the war was not far from COMO just north and east of there in the west Audrain county area.
And yes this the heart of the "Little Dixie" area of Mo.

Decent governor until the Civil War came. Helped the education system quite a bit. Became disgraced during the war for joining the South with Claiborne Fox Jackson who went rogue during his 6 months as governor.

Never.
They need to have an all out war with Kansas and settle things once and for all.
In the meantime, I think they should hire Donald Trump to build a wall.

Sounds a lot like the reason most southern men fought for the confederacy.

I'm approving this, as long as we can have some of those big catapults like they had in LoTRs, and hurl boulders at beakers.

I'll be honest for a moment.
Baton Rouge and New Orleans were surrendered with hardly a fight in the spring of 1862.
There was a battle in August 1862 to attempt to recapture Baton Rouge but it failed miserably.
Lee's Tigers were busy hellraising and kicking arse in Virginia. They are definitely worth remembering even if the cause they were fighting for was deplorable. They were legendary - feared for drunkeness and thievery. Perfect role models for LSU.
But the state of Louisiana and city of Baton Rouge failed miserably at independence. The Yankees took what they wanted. But hey -- General Sherman did give us two cannons from Fort Sumter as a souvenir. I'm trying to imagine another charter SEC school that would have a gift from perhaps the most hated Yankee general on display.
But south Louisiana isn't really the same as the rest of the Deep South and never will be. It's a border land of sorts with different cultural influences than our neighbors in the piney woods and hills to the east. I guess what I'm saying is I can feel you a little bit, Mizzou fans.

Please. Little Dixie and south was southern-leaning. We were a split state, true, but more than "a small portion" was southern.
Darn right. "Small portion"...sounds like a city yankee to me.
Even to this very day, Missourah folks will fight about it. Give 'em hell then and now.

St. Louis was a slave haven. Considering Missouri was already a slave state, accepted by the Union, a heavy majority preferred neutrality, while staying in the Union. Missourians opposed Federal overreach during the war...which some would say made them prefer the South...but was unique to our state considering our situation. Certain military leaders were heavy handed, but Lincoln appeased Missourians by lifting emancipation of slaves in Missouri.
The Southern preferring citizens went to the southern portions of the state, including the disgraced legislators...but the majority did not.

We were the goats, but then a writer described is as the bravery as a bulldog.

The border wars between Kansas and Missouri were about the anti-slavery Jayhawks raping, pillaging and murdering the people in Missouri. Jayhawks were complete bastards. Their mascot is offensive. Need groundswell support on this.
