So can we finally put an end to hyping first year starters for the Heisman?

I don't think anyone is really surprised that Jeremy Johnson failed to live up to the hype.

But the fact that there was hype in the first place is still mind boggling to me. Absolutely undeserved and unwarranted.

ETA: I'm talking about preseason hype, you jackasses. Hype when you have absolutely no idea what you'll get.

Malzahn orchestrated that performance. JJ will still win the award. He will throw for 30 TDs and 0 ints the rest of the season. Malzahn has their attention and the focus is laser sharp from here on. What a freaking genius.

Nobody who knew Manziel was before the season. And Newton was known mainly as a laptop thief.

So you are one of those that thinks the Heisman should be decided on 9/5. A rare breed.

Fine, but let's allow them to play a couple of games before anointing them Heisman winners.

Same as saying that we shouldn't rank teams until later in the year. It happens and we can''t do shite about it.

In that sense, you're right, but at least you can use last year's record, starters lost, etc to rank teams early. Nowadays you'll just have 2 guys named Joe, who both like Ed, because he's the fastest player on their favorite team.

Its because he outperformed the best QB in the SEC to a 21-21 draw before being bench so his team had a chance at winning the game.

We will when we stop overreacting after the very first game of the season. So much wrong in this thread. If they handed out the heisman after the first game, Kenny Trill would've won it last year, who just so happens to have been a first-year starter. If you don't understand the hype surrounding JJ, either you're in denial or don't know anything about football. Or both maybe. You're talking like the season has already been played.

So which was it when Auburn fans were hyping Kheil Frazier as being the next Cam?

If you're trying to compare the hype/potential/early glimpses of Frazier and JJ, you're kidding yourself.. You saw what the hype was all about in the season opener last year. Remember that? Pig Roast is what we called it. Actually.. your coaches are probably just now getting out of the elevator.

It's rare because Arkansas fans don't know what it feels like to have someone in the Heisman conversation, much less win it.
