Auburn vs. Florida Rivalry: The SEC Needs This One To Come Back

I was reading a post a few minutes ago about Florida and their record versus some SEC teams. This got me to thinking about the now basically forgotten AU vs. UF rivalry that use to be one of the best in the conference. For those who like me grew up in the 70's, 80's, and 90's watching these two teams go at it, you remember how exciting this rivalry was. I know it will never happen, but this one really needs to make a yearly comeback. The conference would be better for it if it did.

Think how much more often Auburn could play Florida if the scheduling in the conference actually made sense.

I'd be fine with rotating one of the Mississippi schools and subbing UF in the others place

Let us have 3 rivals, then play 5 other teams every two years... Our would be Alabama, UGA and Florida...

it makes perfect sense now, we just dont have enough time in the season and too many teams in the SEC

No, it doesn't. Also, let me point out that Florida is expected to be dogshit and an easy win this year and probably for another year, and I still don't want them always on my schedule. Gainesville is the shittiest eastern division trip. It sucks having that away game always on the sked while we wait until 2025 to go back to Athens.

Move Auburn to the East. Missouri to the West.
Problems solved.

I agree totally -- it was a great rivalry. I remember my first AU-UF game:Reaves/Alvarez vs Sullivan/Beasley.
This is the only reason I would like to see AU in the east -- the Miss. schools just don't take the place of the Gators

When we go to 16 teams and the pod system you guys probably would play yearly.

Move UT to the West and Auburn to the East and eliminate permanent opponents, problem solved.

Outside of UGA, it has always been my favorite SEC matchup. It was a great rivalry. Auburn is the closest SEC school to Gainesville, it's a shame it has been lost in the shuffle.

Kick out Bama, burn Ole Miss to the ground, de-annex the state of Louisiana: problem solved.
ETA: sterilize College Station.

been saying this exact same thing for 3 years
agree 100% with OP - UF v AU was one of the best rivalries in the SEC

Florida was also the first SEC team to ever agree to play in Auburn way back when it was cliff stadium.

Aubies push this "rivalry" hard on this website.

True....

1939: Auburn's new stadium
In the first varsity football game played at the Tigers' new Auburn Stadium, coach Josh Cody's 1939 Gators and coach Jack Meagher's Tigers played to a 7–7 tie.[10] In the second quarter, Florida fullback Charlie Tate scored the only touchdown of the day for the Gators, then kicked the extra point; Tigers back Dick McGowen threw a touchdown pass to end Babe McGehee to tie the game in the fourth quarter.[10] After the 1939 dedication of Auburn Stadium, the Gators would not win (or tie) a game on the Auburn campus for another thirty-four years

You're either too young to remember it or are just ignorant of SEC history if you can't see this is (or was) one of the premiere rivalries in the SEC.

One of the premier rivalries and it gets tossed by the way side. Must not have been that premier.
